Let's back up.  If we start from scratch, and look at "rules" "law" regardless -
where is the instance in civilization where rule/law became associated with a monotheistic doctrine?

If there is a rule of law/order prior to those based on monotheistic doctrine - where did it come from?

From the people, right?

Where did the people get the sense of right/wrong, need for law/order, etc?

There's been war, murder, slavery, robbery, coveting of, genocide, trails of tears, etc, etc, etc,... since the dawn of mankind... and yes there's even been religion. So the only solution I see is to throw everything out and decide what we can all agree upon. Not promoting anarchy or anything like that however to reach to conclusion that we can separate the two is a little presumptuous on your part.

So were do you want to begin?

Are all those things I posted at the beginning of this good or evil?

Is it alright to do some evil in the cause of good and visa versa?

So now a discussion on the grey areas?  Laughing

And if all was tossed out...the hoarders of guns and food would take over and we would be at their mercy.

Of course the grey areas need to be discussed if you want to start from scratch.

I find this last statement of yours a little presumptuous and discriminating.

Of course then it does make a good argument as to why the US should not disarm their nuclear weapon capabilities.

I am presuming that there are a lot of gun owners out there.
I am discriminating how?
I only speak of what our own here in the US would do...not knowing for sure how anyone here or globally would react to a cessation of the world as we know it being "ruled" today.

Might lead to things massive disease/plagues, riots, murders, etc.

Perhaps fights for survival so then maybe that would be a good kind of evil?

Grey area?

We can only go round and round...

You assume that they are all going to take over in some fashion.

SheWrites wrote:I only speak of what our own here in the US would do...

See! You did it again.

SheWrites wrote:...not knowing for sure how anyone here or globally would react to a cessation of the world as we know it being "ruled" today.

So now you're saying there are rules and laws in place already... Can we assume that these laws were constructed by men?

There's always been disease, plagues, riots, murders, etc,...

Is this something new for mankind?

Just admit that humans are fallible and their constructs of good and evil, which have nothing to do with God, are the same.

Humans are fallible.
Good and evil has nothing to do with God if you do not believe in God.

I believe in God.

However I don't blame God for the fallible constructs that man imposes on him(her)self. That's all mankind's doing.

Why is there a universe?  Why is the universe in the form in it's in and not in some other form?  What is outside the universe?  Is there another universe?
What was in existence before the universe?  What is in existence apart from the known universe?
Why does "life" as we know it exist?  How did life originate?  Is there other life in the universe?  Or outside the universe? And if so,  what form does that life take?
Could something wondrous be in existence right in front of your face right now but you have no capacity to sense it and so no awareness of it?
Is existence what we have the capacity to perceive it to be or is our perception of it incomplete?
And finally, who even cares?

That is as good an answer to any of those questions as any human being who ever lived has ever been able to come up with.  Including Billy Graham,  any Pope and Albert Einstein.  And even Phil Robertson,  Sean Hannity,  Rachel Maddow and Ed Schulz.  And Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin. And yes, even Ronald Reagan himself.

cheers  But I asked google and it said the answer to life and the universe is 42. Then I read that "great source" Wikipedia and it also attributed the number 42 as a multifaceted answer to many scientific things.

So there...

Google had the answer and Wikipedia had the answer.

Is every word in Google and Wikipedia true?

Hospital Bob

That comes from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.  In the story,  a super computer reveals that "42" is the answer to everything.  But later in the story we learn the computer was off by 1 and the actual answer to everything is 43.

I have only one interest in the life after death question.
I'm pissed that once my life has ended I won't know what all develops on Earth in the future and what happens to my fellow humans after that.
It's like leaving a movie theater before the movie ends.
It's not so bad when the movie sucks.  But this one has been a pretty interesting movie. It's unfortunate that I have to be kicked out of it.
I guess that's my payback for sneaking in the popcorn.

It'll be my luck that about a week after I turn into worm food, a flying saucer will land on Earth and it's occupants will ask to be interviewed on CNN.
Shit.

Promiscuity in heaven?  Now that will be an irony since promiscuity on Earth is a sin.

I'm all for it thought.  However,  we'll be so old by the time we get to heaven that we best take some Viagra with us.

Heaven has Vi agra vending machines. Do the Catholics have to tell you everything?

Hospital Bob

Well in that case I better start going to mass cause there's a lot more I need to learn from catholics.
Since I can't take it with me,  how am I gonna have money for the viagra vending machine in heaven?  Will I be able to get a job?  Or is heaven socialist like America and I'll be able to get on welfare?
