Veterans are given thorough medical exams prior to be being admitted into the various services.

If the member, and their immediate family, do not have a history of the developing medical condition that the service member is experiencing then it's hard to prove that it isn't a service related condition.

Not saying that there aren't fraudulent claims.

I'm saying that it's hard to prove that it isn't a service related condition.

DE I spent 26 years in the Army and the thorough medical exam I got only consisted of height, weight, a few shots and a rectal exam as we formed a single line in dressed only our boxers waiting our turn. No blood was drawn and never saw a doctor, all the examining was done by corpsmen or medics. That was my thorough entrance medical exam and the exit medical was even less.

They seem to do a pretty good job screening the heart and vascular system.

Then they have changed quite a bit. All I had done was a stethoscope stuck to my chest, back and neck. No EKG at all.

I have a business partner who I have talked about before whose son has lived his life to be a navy seal.....well he cannot pass the physical with a heart issue, let alone become a seal.....the kid is devastated. Just broke off an engagement and is lost.

I agree. There are certain fields that require more of a physical than others. I know about having dreams shattered since as his was.

I went in as the Vietnam War was coming to a close. They ran us through a cardiovascular, electroencephalograph, blood work, eye-screening, hearing, etc... My whole group was given a fairly comprehensive physical prior to our signing any formal enlistment papers.

I went in during the Vietnam war and I feel like they were rushing folks through the enlistment process just so they could get them through basic and any other training required before sending us off to war.

That was a different time for the country and I am sorry you had to endure it. We both know they were rushing people through to get them to the front lines.
