Channon Gail Christian, 21, and Hugh Christopher Newsom, Jr., 23, were a couple from Knoxville, Tennessee. They were raped, tortured, and murdered after being kidnapped early on the morning of January 7, 2007. Christian's vehicle had been carjacked.[1][2] Five people were arrested and charged in the case. The grand jury indicted four of the suspects on counts of capital murder, robbery, kidnapping, rape, and theft, while a fifth was indicted at the federal level.

Of the four charged at the state level, three (Letalvis D. Cobbins, Lemaricus Davidson, and George Thomas) had multiple prior felony convictions. After a jury trial, Lemaricus Davidson was sentenced to death by lethal injection and Letalvis Cobbins and George Thomas were sentenced to life in prison, Cobbins without the possibility of parole and Thomas with the possibility. Vanessa Coleman has been convicted of facilitating the crimes and sentenced to 53 years in prison, and Eric Dewayne Boyd has been convicted of federal charges as accessory after the fact to carjacking and sentenced to 18 years in prison.[3] The state convictions were set aside because of misconduct by the presiding judge, who has since been disbarred; retrials (pending appeals in all except the Coleman case, whose retrial is not being contested) had been tentatively slated for the summer and fall of 2012, but in May 2012 the Tennessee Supreme Court vacated the motion for new trials. All of the state convictions (except for the Coleman case) were permitted to stand and the defendants remain incarcerated pending appeals. To date, only Coleman has been retried, with a reduction in term from her original sentence by approximately one-third.

I remember sharpton and jackson organizing marches and speaking about it on fox news... just kidding.

My brother lives in nashville and told me of it... it's hard to imagine a human being with so little regard for others.

Something is broken in our society... but no one wants to objectively look at it.

I remember reading about this case. It's just sickening what those murderers did to that couple.

It got next to no national coverage... it might have been mentioned on a forum that came to your attention.

I remember that case and it got very little attention. They kept that girl in that house for like three days and repeatedly raped and sodomized her and then put bleach on her vagina and threw her in a garbage can.

What would the national coverage have been if Trayvon would have killed Zimmerman by bashing his head into the concrete?...Remember the usual suspects Sharpton...Jackson...NAACP etc., all over Gov Bush when a black man was dragged behind a truck and killed...all that Gov Bush was guilty was signing the death warrants of the two pos when it crossed his desk...

What is so hard for people to understand? Why do people constantly post links to cases in which 1) a crime was committed, 2) someone was arrested, and 3) they were found guilty and sentenced; and then compare that to a case in which 1) a crime was committed, 2) only after a national outcry was someone ever even arrested, and 3) that person eventually gets acquitted.

Perhaps to point out that those that claim to be 'outraged' about violence/murder aren't consistant in their logic or lackthereof....Certain individuals  are focused on only the color rather than the crimes committed....

This case exposes the agenda that the media packages and sells to the public... even by manipulating the evidence... as we saw in the martin case. There is something very wrong that is pervasive... I think that it is to promote division. There is some profit motive... yes... but it goes beyond that because the case mentioned here is much more provocative in nature without inclusion of race.

Why did you create a thread asking people about a case if you didn't want to hear people's comments about a case?

and Newswatcher pointed out the outrage regarding horrific violence/murder is selective and not consistent. Regardless of the capture.

Boards just explained it to all of you. There was no arrest made in the case of Trayvon Martin until more than 40 days after the fact. That was the reason for the national coverage and the outcry from the black community. You don't prove a point (whatever point it is you're trying to make) by comparing that case to every other crime in the country. I didn't know about the Tennessee murders; they're horrible...no denying that...but there is no similarity to the other case, mainly because the police responded, did real police work, and made arrests.

TEOTWAWKI

TEOTWAWKI

You two are grossly inconsistent and find the smallest difference to base your frustration on. The police evidently did their job. They called it self defense at the time of the crime and now a long trial later they were right GET OVER IT ! Trayvon made a mistake which cost him his life..young people do that all the time, driving cars, playing dangerous with guns, fire, gravity and other people.

No it isn't. For the millionth time, injustice is the source of the outrage. If some crime is committed and then someone is eventually arrested, tried, and convicted...great. If the no one is even arrested...outrage.

Murder and mayhem will continue at an even more alarming rate than what we endure now all across this country until the perpetrators are dealt with harshly. I mean capital punishment carried out swiftly after one appeal.

But it will never happen.

Our legal profession and society has set it all up so there can be money made from trials, appeals, stays, hearings and what-not. We have huge prisons that serve good food and a clean place to sleep and we need even more prisons to house our monsters.

I don't think it is our religious populace that wants this for the sake of morality and saving human life.

Good god.  In the top case, the killer is a free man. In the bottom case, one of the killers received the death penalty and the rest received life sentences.

Are any of you capable of differentiating between acquittal, a death sentence, and a life sentence? If you are, that is the difference between those cases.

Okay lets look at this..a Black man kills an innocent white boy....no up roar...because the kid is white
Okay a Hispanic man is call white and shoots and kills a black boy that is attacking him and there is an up roar..because the kid is black...if you can't see that then you don't understand justice.

I forgive you because you are just easily manipulated by the media agenda...

Even when it has been explained to you countless times, the concept is still beyond your grasp.

One final attempt. The black men that killed the white boy were all tried, convicted, and sentenced; hence, there is no outrage. Zimmerman wasn't even arrested when he killed Martin; hence the outrage.

Arrest, trial, conviction...no outrage. No arrest...outrage. Now, TEO, re-read this post as many times as you need in order for it to sink in, lest you continue to completely miss the boat.
