I have another acquaintance who has been through the same ordeal. It has been 2 steps forward and 1 step back for her.

I coached his daughters and once went into the stands when I was a ref and tried to hand him the whistle........he went to every one of his daughter's game and was a loving father.......I got the call this morning from my daughter that he is not going to make it.......the damn flu. My prayers are with Neko, Denny, and all the others who are fighting the flu. We just do not expect this to happen in 2013. God I am sad.

This swine flu is very very dangerous. I get dying from cancer, I just do not get striking down healthy people randomly with a virus which we have a vaccine which can help minimize the impact on other families. The pain in my daughter's voice this morning simply hurts, and on top of all this my healthy 30 year old son has been fighting this since wed, and is not getting better. This virus is nasty and it is hurting people. We really need to pray for Neko, and if you do not mind include one for Denny.

Seaoat, of course I will pray for Denny and for your son.  I will be checking back for reports on them as well as on Neko.

For those who are on Facebook, the young lady also fighting this battle can be tracked at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Praying-for-Kendra-Fendt/480355835411834.  There are a lot of religious postings mixed in with the health updates.  Because she got so ill so fast, doctors had to take her baby.  She doesn't even know.

A week ago this guy was worrying about my health.....Neko was always concerned and in touch......and now in the fricking modern age the flu can be so fricking dangerous. I remember my grandmother talking about how devastating losing her father was in 1918....he was healthy as a horse, and it was horrible......in a matter of a week her father was gone.

I just hope this thing stays contained. It is deadly. I am watching the bear game and I am thinking about all those people coughing touching counters, rails, and if this cow gets out of the barn will we see another 1918......with all our miracles of modern medicine.......it is still really messing people up.

Latest update....

" No changes today. Doctors are going to try to perform a procedure tomorrow to get some of the fluid out of her lungs so we can get her PEEP lower so they can perform a tracheostomy later this week"

Two near death pneumonias with a tumor fusing my upper left lobe together.....obtuse....well I think I understand the seriousness in a way many others do not......I was lucky.....they could cut the tumor and the lobe out before my lungs were compromised completely.........I woke up without a ventilator, and I have spent every minute since that moment celebrating life, but obtuse......I wish I never had that knowledge, nor would I wish it on my worst enemy.....dying from the liver is a piece of cake......not breathing is a nightmare you never want to understand, but if you were calling me an angle which is less than 180 degrees I apologize because you are always off on both your concepts and definitions.

Concerning but I suppose no trach yet is good news. when I had acute renal failure due to TTP over 20 years ago, they had put a swan in me. I couldn't even have a ice cube. stick me with a needle and literally a spout of fluid would shoot out about a foot.

I don't know what the procedure was called but I barley remember them pulling fluid off my lungs with a large syringe. I thought is was from the swan. I was so sick I don't recall all the details.

anyway. praying for a miracle recovery. they do happen.

Thorocentesis.....procedure to remove fluid that collected between the chest wall and the lung.

I miss my friend. Please remember to say a prayer for Neko. A real friend, who does not believe in prayer, offered a prayer for Neko. To me, that was very special and meaningful.

never turn a prayer down.....some things we simply do not understand, and she is our comrade here.....like family we fight like cats and dogs at times and some of us will never meet in person.....we share......both good things and bad things.....this is as bad as it gets.......it hurt when Leo was sick and for whatever reason this hurts more......I guess the randomness of the damn flu virus puts everybody at risk......there is no safe place to hide or live our lives......we are as vulnerable as if we were in the Middle ages and the black plague was spreading.....there cannot be enough prayers.

I don't know Neko as well as you do, Joani, but this news has saddened me so. Like Birdy, the first thing I did when I got home yesterday was check in to see if we had an update. This is the first place I visited when I woke up a few minutes ago.  Crying or Very sad

I know PB.

I talked to her brother last night. He said they are going to try and get the fluid off her lungs today and in the next day or so do a trach. He said, " if any she might be just a smidgeon better, but not very much at all."

Still continuing to pray for Neko.

Update posted by her daughter.

Oxygen and PEEP both lower today, which is good news for her tracheostomy later this week. Doctors are hoping to drain some fluid from her lungs today. They have lowered her sedation so it is possible she may awaken soon this week. Keep prayers coming, y'all are so awesome thank you."

Just got home from work and checked this thread first. Decreasing the sedation sounds promising. She probably still has a long, hard road ahead of her, though. I will continue to pray for her and for her family.

Thank you for keeping us all posted.
