The latest, posted an hour ago. Best one yet!!!  smiley: happy

"Doing very well at her new hospital home. She breathed on her own for a whole hour today and the nurse let her use her trache to say "I love you" to us. Prayers are so strong thank you so much."

That's good news for sure  Very Happy

Update......

Neko's brother called me last night.....he was happy to report, Neko was off the ventilator for 5 hours yesterday and the nurses got her out of bed. He said she is alert, learning to talk with the trach, and wanting to go home. More importantly there are no signs of any brain compromise...her family is very excited about her progress.

Again, they would like to thank everyone for their good thoughts and prayers for Neko's recovery. It's working!

Wondeful! I am so glad to hear that! Neko is a strong person and so fortunate to overcome this when other people didn't.

Yes she has. Thanks to a loving supportive family and thoughts and prayers from her many friends here and around the world. She is well thought of and missed.

Neko's daughter posted this about an hour ago. Best news yet.

"She's doing very well! Off the ventilator and breathing on her own with only the support of oxygen supply. She is using a voice box to talk and she has lots to catch up on God is so amazing"

That's great news, she has come a long way. BTW I have not stayed up with this thread, did she have a flu shot? Just wondered I read an article the other day the flu was hitting the one's that had the shot much worse this year rather than the one's who did not have the shot.

That is entirely false. A person who has the flu shot can still get the flu, but its efficacy is proven beyond any reasonable doubt. The H1N1 is deadly, and the flu shot this year has been very effective in regards to the same.

I am glad Neko is improving and I look forward to raising her blood pressure and getting her fingers a typing away.

No clue. She sent me a pm and said she had never been as sick as she was. Her follow up pm was her diagnosis of bilateral pneumonia. She told me they put her on antibiotics and steroids......I didn't hear from her again.

Not necessarily according to the Oregon health department. Can't find the article, but it seemed the cdc had input in that.

Hallelujah! This scared me so much I am considering getting a flu shot. I haven't had one in years and am wary.

I've never had a flu shot. I have thought about it.

Why haven't you gotten one?

Please get your flu shots.....they are far from perfect, but they improve your survivability. All the superstition and anti science nonsense which spreads on the internet must be weighed against what the CDC recommends.....they are still advising people this flu season to get their shots.

I think I am. I went to Publix and they were out of them. I am older now and can't fool myself thinking I will survive the h1n1 after Neko's experience.

The flu shot is far from perfect. In some years the efficacy is not as good as in other years. I had pneumonia twice when the tumor collapsed my left lung lobe, and the second time, I did not think I was going to survive. There are a great many awful ways to go, but not being able to breathe is the worse.......I have been taking the flu shot on doctors orders since 2008 and every flu season I tiptoe around hoping I can make it without my compromised lungs being put at risk again......I really do not think it is hard to figure the efficacy, because the insurance companies pay for them at no cost to the patient because one illness requiring hospitalization will pay for over 10k flu shots.......so I tend to watch where people put their money, not their superstition or false science.

My mother always go the flu shot......and each year she would get so damn sick. I finally insisted she break it up into two doses. She still got sick but not as bad.

As for me, having worked in the ER so many years I really believe my immunity was built up. I never got sick, even after being exposed to so many contagious illnesses. Now, I am thinking about it.

Have any of you anti-vaccine people ever experienced a full blown case of influenza?

I did as a healthy young man of 31.

It was anguish.

The symptoms were torture - every muscle aching, fever, sores, hacking, etc, etc, etc ...

Then, it took me a full two weeks to even get back to close to 100%.

I'll take the shot.

I take other precautions. Just because I don't take the corporate approved vaccine doesn't mean I don't boost my immune system year round.
