"Most alcoholics deny that they have drinking problems."
"Alcohol abuse (the dangerous use of alcohol without dependence) and alcoholism (a dependence on alcohol) are major social, economic, and public health problems in the United States. Each year, about 100,000 deaths nationwide are wholly or partially attributed to drinking. Alcoholism is the third leading cause of death nationwide; it would be number one if traffic accidents and death certificate diagnoses related to alcohol were included in the statistics. Alcoholism reduces the life expectancy of alcoholics by 10 to 12 years. According to NIAAA, each year, alcohol-related problems cost society approximately $100 billion."
"Severely depressed or anxious people are at high risk for alcoholism. People who are impulsive, excitable, and seek novelty; and those with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder; are also at higher risk for alcoholism."

"Alcohol has many negative effects on the brain. People who are abuse or are dependent on alcohol often black out, have trouble sleeping, and can get a neurological disorder called Wernicke-Korsakoff's syndrome."

It's pretty sad.

If I was you, I'd stop drinking, and definitely stay away from guns.

Does your sock have a hole for your trigger finger....?

bghlaw0371

It is very sad indeed. It ruins lives of young and old. DUI related deaths alone are killing children on a daily basis in this country.

Drunks tend to be very abusive in every situation.

The NIAAA lists four warning signs of drinking problems:
•Feeling a need to cut down on drinking,
Getting annoyed when others criticizing the person's drinking,
Feeling bad or guilty about drinking, and
Having a drink upon waking up to steady the nerves or get rid of a hangover.

"People who abuse or are dependent on alcohol are at increased risk for liver disease, heart disease, certain cancers (especially those of the liver, esophagus, throat, and voice box), immune system problems, and brain damage."

LOL. Idiot.

Troll on stalker, but your sock smells of death.

Ya just don't learn, do ya....?

This time of year there will be too many deaths due to alcohol consumed in the "spirit" of the season. Children will die because adults get drunk in an attempt to be happy.

For the sake of the children, everyone should at least consider cutting down on alcohol.

"The more people drink, the more likely it is that they will have alcohol-related interpersonal problems with their relationships with family, friends, co-workers, and even strangers."

100,000 deaths a year. 100 Billion dollars.

bghlaw0371

This country should do much more to save our children from abusive drunks, not to mention the money spent to deal with the drunks.

"Moderate drinking can be good for the heart, but drinking too much over a long period of time increases the risk for high blood pressure, heart disease, and some kinds of strokes."

Boy howdy, how true that is.

That explains why you're trolling me.

Have another cocktail, and troll on.

Did you know I'm training to be an addiction counselor, especially alcoholics...? You should come with me to some of my lectures. They are quite informative. It's ultimately about the flooding of the inner brain w/ dopamine....the same kind of buzz a troll gets when they can't face their addiction to constant harassment of others.

"Alcoholics who stay sober are always susceptible to relapse and can never drink alcohol. Successful recovery requires the person to stop drinking completely; cutting down does not work. It is common for recovered alcoholics to relapse. When this happens, the person needs to stop drinking again and get any support necessary to keep from starting again"

100,000 deaths a year. Due to alcohol.

bghlaw0371

"Alcoholics with Wernicke-Korsakoff's syndrome may sometimes forget who they are, become disoriented, and have hallucinations. Wernicke-Korsakoff's syndrome can result in permanent brain damage and even death."

DRINK UP SHRINERS...!!!

•Three in every ten Americans will be involved in an alcohol-related crash at some point in their lives.

bghlaw0371

On average, one person died every 48 minutes in 2009 due to an alcohol-impaired driver.

bghlaw0371

On New Year’s Day, 468 people were killed in car accidents. Alcohol-impaired driving contributed to 40 percent of them.

bghlaw0371

In 2009, 14 percent of children ages 14 and younger killed in crashes died because of alcohol.

bghlaw0371

More than 181 children were killed due to drivers who were drunk. (2009)

bghlaw0371

The CDC reports that 68 percent of children killed in alcohol-related crashes in the United States between 1997 and 2002 were riding in the same vehicle as the drinking driver. Sixty-eight percent of the drinking drivers involved in these crashes survived, suggesting that many of the children might also have survived had they been properly restrained.
Motor vehicle crashes remain the leading cause of death for children ages one year or older, and one in four of these crash deaths involve legally drunk drivers, according to the CDC.

bghlaw0371

Additional key findings by the CDC include:

•A total of 2,335 (24 percent) of the 9,622 child passengers who died in crashes from 1997 to 2002 involved drinking drivers.

It's a really stupid thread trying to compare guns to alcohol.

bghlaw0371

There is no comparison. The facts are very clear.

This thread is about alcohol and the cost in lives and dollars to this country.

MADD needs to spend more on advertising this time of year. Hundreds of lives will be destroyed or lost over the next few weeks due to the inability of some to control their alcohol consumption.

It is not funny. It is not a joke.

If this thread offends, so be it.
