Welcome to the American Police State, where you can indict a ham sandwich, but you can't indict a pig.

He resisted arrest. Could have been avoided.

You should probably watch the video. He clearly put his hands up once the guy came up from behind and applied the choke hold.

Or...were those gang signs?

He cleary put his hands up before the choke hold and continued to move preventing them from cuffing him. You don't cuff someone with there hands raised.....the hands are behind the back or in front......he was resisting.

I was playing in a public casino and the man in the 10 seat was a stranger, yet he felt comfortable enough to say the N word where I could hear it.....sorry you run away from the racism, but you are part of the power structure which has been slow to change. When did Pensacola hire its first black firefighter? Organizations and people do not change overnight, and the stain remains.

Stranger or not I call it when it is spoken. Its not hip and its not cool to lift yourself up at the expense of a race.

I call it when it can be constructive, but I will not escalate stupid when somebody says something under their breath and was not broadcasting it to the table.

Don't know when the first black applied and was hired but I do personally know one of the black firemen......he was with the department in the mid 70's.

How can we expect institutional racism to stop if some of the folks still on the force were around when a black man could not even apply.

Tell us....when was the first black fireman hired in Birmingham, and when did the first black man apply to the department?

Have you ever had a black doctor? How about your wife, does she have a black doctor? Tell us when.

Get off your high- critical horse.

Get off your high- critical horse.

I will get off my high horse when I do not see politicians in PA admitting that voter ID is about winning the state for Romney. I will get off my high horse when the hateful Dixiecrats and the southern plan is eliminated from American politics. People just cannot stand being reminded of the reality which they deny as they fully think that dog whistle is fooling anybody. I will get off my high horse when the war on drugs is over and police departments are reduced by a third. I will get off my high horse when our jails are empty of non violent drug offenders. Until then my horse and I feel very comfortable calling out societal racism.

How many black doctors do you have?

From the video alone, it appears there should have been an indictment, but I was not on the grand jury.

The cop didn't have to choose to put the suspect in a choke hold. But why not, if the suspect dies no Grand Jury is ever going to indict a cop.

If they won't punish bad cops ... we'll have to. If a few cops get gunned down, maybe the legal system will figure out how to solve the problem!

There have been more than a few cops gunned down by criminals.

Just because you wear a badge doesn't mean you're not a criminal.

Don't resist.

If Eric Garner was my son,  I would be in the streets with the protestors every damn day for the rest of my life until those cops were brought to justice.
And that no indictment shit is not justice.

AND,  I would start selling single cigarettes on the street in his honor and FUCK the law. What happened to Garner is not any "law" I want to live under.

Good Lord joani, don't have a limit on how low you can go to protect these slimeball rogue cops huh? He resisted . . . .that's justification for killing him?
You are lost kiddo . . . . really have jumped the rails! I know bullshit when I see it and people who are willing to protect rogue police officers have basically lost the basic moral foundation and principles we are supposed to stand for . . . . touchy? touchy? You think that is clever or funny when we are talking about a fellow citizen was murdered by those supposedly protecting us . . . . get your . . . . . whatever!

When you can watch a video of 5 cops fatally choking a guy out who is clearly surrendering with his hands up and repeatedly stating that he cannot breathe, and you feel that that is perfectly justified, you have essentially surrendered your ability to think critically.

I suspect we could see a video of a cop stating "I am going to illegally murder this man! I am breaking the law right now! Watch! (Pow) See! I just murdered that man! I deserve to be prosecuted!" and Joani would be here saying "He shouldn't have resisted!" or "Cops get killed all the time!".

This incident has accomplished something else as well.
Many of us (me included) were convinced that police body cameras would go a long way to, if not preventing this sort of thing, to make it a lot easier for everyone to actually know what happens in a confrontation with police.
But here we had the best closeup video of everything which happened that anyone could ever want. And even with that video, it did not lead to justice.
So much for body cameras.

BOF is correct and Bob is also correct. Why waste that money to record the event when society is unwilling to expect consequences for murdering citizens! It's outrageous is what it is . . . .
