I like the Sheriff, but nationwide this is exactly what we are seeing as more people fill our jails and we require more officers.....this is insanity.

Legalize marijuana and tax it like cigarettes.

Maybe about time to start running the jail like Sheriff Joe does out in Arizona...The basics and that's it...Or...will the BOCC approve say a 5 cent tax hike on gas to fund this too...if so at least it would be better spent than funding the E-Cat...Put the jail operations up for bids and turn it over to civilian firm to run....

Bingo

Put the jail operations up for bids and turn it over to civilian firm to run....

Nope

Non compliance and violations of probation fill jails.....if this was violent criminals.....mission accomplished, but these are dopes and mopes who we house and feed. We need to take this country back from the standing army which is consuming this nation's wealth fighting a war against alcohol and drugs.....the insanity continues.

Certainly would agree to cut the incarceration for minor drug related arrests but to legalize?....If legalized crime will stop?...The gangs will evaporate somehow?...But agree that the priorities of law enforcement should be directed at the violent offenders...gangs etc., rather than the heads using for themselves...

LOL....Turn over MORE tax money to the bandits in DC and expect them to pay down the debt!...They still don't believe they have a spending problem...but with more money there may be a better selection of cowh phones...food stamps....dna tests...condoms...subsidized housing etc.,....

Must. Find. Wall. Bang. Head. Ouch.

It's a fucking weed that grows in the dirt. Legalizing and taxing will never stop the illicit trade.....EVER.

Just de-criminalize it and move on.

If I wanted tobacco, I'm not gonna buy the acreage it takes to supply a habit.

If I want alcohol, I'm not gonna make a still. Costly and absurd.

Pot legalization implies passive consent....that'll never work.

It's way too simple for the over-thinkers to understand.

"....here's what the Doctor ordered for you, may I see your ID and registration card....?"

Idiots.

Of course pot should be legalized but I doubt that would stop the sheriff from asking for 95 million. Is it really million? I think he needs to put the same efforts that have made him an effective sheriff into figuring a way to manage his budget. Our county cannot afford what he wants.

America cannot afford this misguided drug war, nor can we continue to lose our freedoms as the police state is being accepted.

The police are doing what they can while the judges let the criminals free with a slap on the hand and the taxpayers pay the legal fees of court appointed lawyers

The jail and its budget has always been an pain for every sheriff...The BOCC should take it from the sheriff's budget and formulate a plan for there to be a county administrator for the jail under their own budget or turn the operations over to a private firm...

What percentage of non violent dopes and mopes are filling space because of VOP..........?.At some point you have to realize that a county jail is not a great place to find answers for substance abuse, and at 40k a year.......housing those dopes and mopes because of prohibition makes even less sense, than buying each of them a new car each year......in one case we need to hire local folks and increase employment, and in the other we create private sector jobs with the sale of a new car for each VOP.....either was people are not safer, but we are equally busted and broke.
