The number of civilian contractors associated with the military is a major issue. A friend came over yesterday and described visiting his son in San Diego. The parents were given a tour of the ship... which was cool he said. But he noticed all the guys dressed in casual clothes working all over the ship. Asked what they were doing the son said they were civilian contractors and performed almost all repairs, calibrations, upgrades... etc. The Pentagon employs an amazing number of them. This is a huge black hole in military spending.
