Guess Congress has a plan to move everyone onto base once the troops get evicted from their homes???

That was the word passed down today from the commander.

But Congress is still getting their six figure income. Rolling Eyes

$1320 per month POOF gone!

Just the beginning. We simply need to have a combination of intelligent cuts and enhanced revenues by attacking subsidies and loopholes.....but nope....750k jobs are going to get whacked and this insane treason continues.

The commisary is going to be closed on Wednesdays, too.

The Selective Service System may also fall to the budget ax:

I voted for Johnson. President Obama is not responsible for this. This is fully on the back of the house republicans. They are traitors to this country. When we will not look at subsidies and loopholes for our highest earners......and no revenue is considered......it is anarchy.........Morgan Chase gets 85 billion government subsidy in the form of guarantees and we could pay for this with line item review of subsidies and loopholes and not have one person laid off. The truth however is that we in fact need to have some layoffs, but we need priority and discussion.....this is not happening with the house Republicans.....they are traitors.

It's worrisome that you can't envision 10 or 20% waste in govt... it makes me think you have any no idea how govt works.

Horseshit Seaoat. You have a party writing checks to its supporters that the government cannot cash and you have one party wanting to cut spending and the check writing contingent is defending the ever growing spending to the death of what might be this country.

47% cannot even pay a dime in taxes and most of that 47% is actually getting a refund anyhow because of earned income credits. WTH is wrong with that picture? How can people breaking even on their taxes and not having to pay a dime, expect the govt to scratch out a check for 4-5k just because they didn't earn "enough"?

We're at a tipping point in this country. Everyone should pay at least 5% to the government regardless. Nobody should break even at tax time and expect an "earned income credit" to hand them a check for 4-5k that they blow on crap for the most part.

Then start the cuts....in Congress for their inability to accomplish much of anything and for not doing their sworn duties...Entitlement programs need to be re-evaluated...If you're an able bodied individual and you've been living off the system as an occupation your time should be up..Nothing wrong with helping those that need help but those that chose not to help themselves and do nothing should be dealt with...There should be defense cuts but the troops and their families should not be an option...These are folks that are actually doing their jobs under dangerous circumstances which they were sent into by a do nothing Congress and the cowh...They should not suffer for the incompetence of DC...

Not quite so:

"First, there is good news. Luckily, military pay and entitlements will not be affected by the cuts. This means, not only will the paycheck keep coming, but so will Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) and Basic Allowance for Subsistence (BAS), as well as all monetary allowances that our military members are set to receive in their pay."

There are programs that will be reduced but not pay.

Thank you nochain. I was very skeptical about PD's post specially since he posted it with no substantiating evidence. I believe that if someone post something such as this they should back it up instead of just their opinions.

The only talk I have ever read is in regard to Dual BAH. There have been talks of cutting Dual BAH for a few years now.

That's great to hear that the military will receive their allowances even though compared to their professionalism to that of Congress and the cowh they should be paid much better...It also further shows that the lame officials up on capital hill and the white house are smart enough not to screw the military people right out in the open...but are content to have a WAR on the middle class workers...

Obviously not! So a Light Colonel told you this little tidbit of erroneous information. I think your LtCol is talking out his ass.

Questions and rumors about what might happen are making military families uneasy, angry, and looking for someone to do something. So, what will happen on March 1 if an agreement isn't reached?

Rumor: Military pay and allowances will be cut. False.

Fact: Military pay and allowances are protected. Paychecks will be paid on time and basic allowance for housing and other pays will continue. Retirees and survivors will also continue to receive their payments and annuities.

I should have known he was wrong.

I feel stupid for expressing concern.

It's an option on the table despite what you are reading in the OSINT.

I would trust an news article like the two that were poster on this thread over that of a Lt Col any day. Hell a Sgt Major even has more clout than an O-5.

I think what's more likely to happen is that single troops will be forced to live on base.

I remember years ago that members with dependents could lose their BAH if they were offered base housing and refused to accept it.
