I guess speaking frankly about the failure of our mercenaries and the current state of our military in the absence of a draft where quality cross section of our population build a competent and skeptical military which does not march in lockstep conformity of sub mediocrity, and a military which sees no benefit as a profit center for MIC. I understand profanity by a teacher, but telling the truth about the type of mercenaries who enter the service is really over reach.

Ok... It worked now. Is this really what you'd want from an educator? Is he teaching leftist partisanship 101?

You've been bleating about reinstating the draft for a while now and, at the same time, whining about the size and cost of our military. If we started the draft again both the size and cost of the military would explode. DUH!

Absent a draft, it's doubtful that the Vietnam war would have been prosecuted the way it was and certainly not with half-a-million ground troops.

As far as criticizing the military and the absence of free speech in our "military fascist state", how come you haven't been dragged away in chains yet?

For 27 years Alan Gropman served in the U.S. Air Force, accumulating more than 4,000 flying hours in two tours in Vietnam. He participated in 670 combat missions, including many that delivered the Army's battle-hardened 101st Airborne to the fight. When he returned home, the Lt. Col. Gropman became Professor Gropman and taught military history and strategy at the Air Force Academy, Georgetown University and George Mason University.

Why not? Other nations have mandatory conscription laws. Doesn't that put the United States at a disadvantage? Aren't we less safe since we don't force a portion of our population into military service? Doesn't the size of a nation's military directly correlate to its martial prowess?

"You wouldn't have a better army — you'd just have more people," Gropman says.
