Credit Card Surcharge fees Permitted in Some States beginning Sunday

Florida, fortunately is one state where they are illegal, but they sound awful.

Maximum of 4%.......yikes! That could prove expensive on some larger purchases.

I don't have time to research right now, but wonder about online purchases and how they are treated if the merchandiser is in a state where they are legal.

Anyone know?

There was a lot of discussion tonight about gas stations in Florida who offer discounts for cash. Isn't that a form of charging for plastic purchases?

My cards are turning over in their pockets!

i got charged extra 4% when i bought fireworks this year for paying with a debit card. i thought it was weird. dont know if the two are connected though

They have been sending out the necessary notices......truth of the matter is that when the bankruptcy reform act was rammed through by 76 bipartisan senators who were owned by the banks and credit card companies.....well they knew that high earning folks could no longer discharge their debt in a straight 7, but now will have to take the means test......we are a nation of indentured servants.......the cost of money available to banks is less than 1%, YET FOLKS ARE REGULARLY BEING CHARGED OVER 15%........welcome to servitude.

Don't really have much time to spend on it right now, but I did read that debit cards are strictly prohibited from charging the fee.

Some of the discussion tonight revolved around the perils of debit cards and ID theft.

I wonder if they get around that by only running your card as credit? because its a visa.

Id be interested in this as seaoat mentioned too because when i was reading the frank-dodd bill some of this stuff was in it.

and yes, I have sen places all over in florida offering discounts for cash. I havnt really paid attention, the 1st time was the firework thing that i noticed. now i will be paying attention because youve made me think about it. because if they cant charge extra on debits and they are getting around it by running your debit as a visa, somebodies scamming somebody.
