Well all my life when I have bought any furniture I have had it delivered with a week. 3 months ago I ordered a couple of chairs from a newly reopened store and was told by the sales person they would have them in between 10 days and 3 weeks that these were special order. Well as of today I still don't have them and I'm being told the manufacturer does not have some of the parts in that supposedly come from china and then the chairs are assembled here in the states. Problem is my wife points out on the receipt that they cannot guarantee when I may receive them.

Anyone else ever had this problem locally?

My furniture consists of other people saying, "Hey, do you want my recliner? I don't need it anymore. We're moving." Razz
But seriously I haven't heard of having to wait 3 months to receive your furniture. That doesn't sound like you're getting good customer service. Sorry to hear about that. Maybe it's time for a refund.

I had a similar problem with a couch I ordered from JC Penney two years ago. It took four months to come in. Fortunately, they refunded nearly half of the purchase price for my trouble.

I haven't bought or ordered anything from Penney's since then, and I doubt I ever will again.

I make my own furniteure out of corn husks, recycled foam, and bamboo.

I use the skin of dead animals that i get from the ASPCA as covers on the furniture.

I bought a sheepskin to put in front of the wood stove. The dogs love it... they lay on it one way and toast, switch sides and toast on the other side. When a hot ember gets on it, it stinks like human hair burning!

All the furniture and appliances in my house come from garage sales. The trick is to buy the stuff after someone bought it new right before they either died or went to a nursing home and the children are now selling it cheap just to get rid of it.
And if you have some extra storage space, buy extras to have spares on hand when the ones you're using wear out. For example, I have three nice recliners on standby when one of mine needs replacing. I do that because when I need one I don't want to have to wait until I find another good deal in another yard sale. I've already bought it and have it on hand.

Hey Bob, you don't happen to have a cheap exercise bike, do you?

I've never bought one, repear, but we see them all the time at the yard sales. You can buy every kind of exercise machine imaginable. That and baby clothes are the two most plentiful items we see.

You know a couple of years ago my wife and I bought baby clothes and turned around and sold them on ebay. You can make a little money but not get rich. I guess I'll have to start getting up early on Saturday's a couple of weeks and looking for a cheap exercise bike.

My wife never liked doing the ebay thing but I loved it. We sold a few things. But did get taken once for someone who said they didn't receive a collector's mug I sold to them, even though the P.O. said it was delivered, ebay and paypal gave him back the money. I was pissed. I insured it and the the P.O. said if the mailman confirmed it was delivered they wouldn't even except my claim. I guess that's the point my wife said no more.

Thanks

Read the garage sale ads on Friday and you might see an exercise bike in the ad listing. Use both the PNJ and Craigslist for the yard sale ads.

I bought one of these http://www.walmart.com/ip/Gold-s-Gym-Power-390-Recumbent-Bike/14972092

At Walmart. It's the only exercise bike I like to ride. I have a bad back and I love it (the bike). It is comfortable because you are basically recumbent. The seat is comfortable and doesn't put the strain on your crotch. Gold's Gym makes a model without the handles and I don't think I would like that one.

The only thing about these... and it seems to be a fault with all of them is that they will eat D-size batteries, 4 at a time. Apparently, they don't go to "sleep" like they should. I installed a manual switch on the battery circuit and go through about one set of batteries every 10-12 months now.

I put a strip of velcro on my iPad, attach the iPad to the face of the display unit (not covering the readouts), plug in the audio cable (has small speakers) and ride it EVERY weekday morning.

Bob, maybe you can start a column on here to give us all tips about yard sales and "pickin'." Just a thought....

Yard sales.... Arrrgh. No offense Bob, but "early birds" can be a pain in the Butt, man (pun intended).

When I had dobermans, I would put them in the front yard and place a sign saying we aren't starting until 8 a.m... right next to the "beware of dog" sign.

My big male dobie would put the hair up on his back, spread his legs just a little and bark "You, You, You". I swear it sounded like that. Smile

Thanks Bob.

BTW I was talking with a manager of a storage place today and she did say that the storage war shows did increase business but also prices.

Those storage shows are staged more than American Pickers. The characters are pretty big jerks... mostly. I like the guy named Barry... a former picker.

Storage Hunters seems to be a good show, though. Not so much animosity. I like these two guys. Allen and Ton (the big guy).

I have a nine year old cat that cranks out a rusty "heeeooooo" sometimes. Freaks me out! He tends to do it right before his dinner.

Reaper....Last June (20th) I ordered several pieces of furniture from La-Z-Boy. It was a special order rather than a floor model and I was told it would take 8-10 weeks for the furniture to made and delivered..... the furniture arrived August (18th). I was well aware ahead of time how long it would take.

For those who have any interest in the "picker" tv shows, there's a new one called "Picked Off" which debuted this week on History Channel.
Next week's second episode is going to be the yard/estate sale episode which was filmed at Bayview Park several months ago. I just happened up on it accidentally because it was an advertised sale and I witnessed them filming the whole thing for about two hours. I'll be interested to see how what I saw in person compares to how it's portrayed on TV...

It's a real problem both for the sellers and for the buyers. Sellers expect people to not show up before the advertised time and they get pissed when we do. But if we wait until the advertised time then invariably someone else gets all the good loot. I can't tell you the numbers of times I've honored the request to come back at 8 oclock and when I do I find out they opened after I left and the good stuff is all gone. You really have to be there in the first few minutes after the sale opens to have a chance to get real bargains because there are dozens of dedicated re-sellers (flea market vendors and ebay vendors) out there competing with you.
There is no good solution to it. When I show up early I just try to be really nice about it and cooperate with the seller.

By the way, several times I've seen signs posted saying "early birds pay double" or "early birds will be shot", etc. I always honor those signs and move on. lol

If I'd been told it would take 3 months that would be one thing, but I was told 10 days to 3 weeks at the most. Supposedly there will be a truck arriving with my chairs on it July 23rd. Evil or Very Mad
