Can you imagine going to a storage auction and getting this?

PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Numerous body parts, including organs and tissues, were discovered in a Pensacola storage unit late last week.

Pensacola Police don't believe the parts were acquired from a violent crime. Police say the body parts were stored by an individual in the medical field and were acquired through the suspect's job.

Pensacola Police are investigating the case and are working to determine if charges can be filed.

BREAKING: Partial Remains Of Possibly 100 People Found In Storage Shed
August 27, 2012
Partial remains of as many as 100 people have been found in storage unit in Pensacola.

The remains were reportedly from private autopsies performed from 1997 to 2007 by a former associate medical examiner. The body parts were stored in labeled containers and were believed to be from funeral homes in the Pensacola and Panama City areas.

The remains were found at Uncle Bob’s Storage on East Fairfield Drive when a unit was sold at auction. Many containers were labeled with the name or other information that can be used to notify families, but many parts were unlabeled.

The incident is under investigation by the Pensacola Police Department, the State Attorney’s Office and other agencies.

I've changed my mind about where I want to eat if I ever come to Pensacola. Some place that doesn't serve pig perhaps.....

Got any good Jewish restaurants down there?

No they were most lilkly in formalin.

I see they say former assc of medical examiner. and Im curious as to which tech took them some controls and stuffed em in a storage unit and then lost the unit. Maybe from death because I know they are hiring recently.

the only thing I see where there could be a problem is the names should have been removed. So if the person is still alive, they may have a HIPPA issue on thier hands. And if the medical examiner did not give them permission to take the specimens as controls, they may have another. And I doubt the medical examiner wants to say they gave permission when there is a HIPPA violation.

Keep me updated on this story. I cant read PNJ and this is most likly someone I know professionally.

I need to talk to Bob about this. Bob, in case you didn't know, buys and sell nearly anything. Buying the contents of a storage compartment sight unseen is common all over the country. If a dude loads up a bunch of cartons all nicely sealed but not identified and gets home and finds ten human brains packed in a preservative he might know someone who would pay a lot of money for them. Would that be breaking some kind of law other than the law of humane behavior?

If this was a legitimate storage that was documented from the place that was having a legitimate reason to hold them, the only thing I can see is that this storage should have never been sold. Hospitals and other labs often use outside storage units for thier stuff. This is documented and accepted by regualtory agencies. It is not acceptiable for someone to allow the unit to be sold off.

My guess is this was some parts a tech stashed away to use for personal controls. A little overzealous for my taste, but some people are like that. Or it could be one of your local pathologist screwed up.

These extra parts are put in the garbage after the required amount of time has passed. So many times the extra parts are kept in order to use as control tissues for a variety of testing that is done in pathology. It is common pratice and legal.

whats not legal here is the HIPPA violation due to the unit being sold.

clear as mud?

I can almost garentee you they were not in household cups. if so the man was stupid.

most likly he had them in a type of plastic container that pathology uses. they look very simular to tupperware.

pathologist do keep these types of things for education and control tissues for future use if they see something unsual.

it said most of the names were not on there, so maybe saving grace for hippa violations. but formalin is found in many things you can buy so they will have ahard time going down the hazard road.

and I seen one article where they were saying oh, the patients families are going to be upset they were stored. well, they normally get tossed in the garbage. do people really think there is enough room to store every bodys loose parts....

I'll come to the mans defence, he was stupid for letting the storage unit go, but what he was doing is not out of practice.

I fear now this is going to cause hospitals a problem for storage now, because this is common pratice. gross to those who dont understand the feild, but not illegal when done properly.
