The President just made sure the house will not approve any bill the Senate gets done at the last minute. I felt he was spiking the ball in their face.....he is talking avoidance of the fiscal cliff, but his talk today did absolutely nothing to accomplish that goal......we are going over the cliff.....the president should have stayed quiet if he seriously wanted a deal....he was all laughs and happy and he was sticking it in the face of the house.....the president does not want a deal....it was obvious.

The president has played the House Republicans like a harp. If you watched this press conference.....well politely.....the President has been taunting.....his jovial mood.....his quips.....are not what the house wants to see.....they wanted to see him squirming and his intention has always been to go over the cliff and get five fold revenue. He will never see any of the heat, and a group of senators will stop anything to repeal the higher tax, and Obama sits back like he has no control.......He has engaged a brilliant strategy......he has just given a smack down to the house.....not as somebody who wants to avoid the cliff.....as the person pushing the congress over the cliff.

I am so sick and tired of hearing the words "fiscal cliff". It's an artificial construct...that's the ruse, not what Obama's doing. I believe he's being the rational one; taxes on the middle class will briefly rise, but there will be a groundswell from the public opposing those increases...the President is doing what the majority wants and needs, and somehow he's not doing his job?

I believe that the majority wants cuts in spending along with reasonable tax rates. How is the President doing his job in all of this?

We are going to end up going over, tax rates will rise for all, and then there will be a bill passed by the senate that cuts taxes only for those making less than $250K, or perhaps $400k. Republicans will then be in the predicament of having to vote against a middle class tax cut.

I am telling you I saw outright taunting today. Senator McCain just took the Senate floor and called it my way. The President did nothing to allow a timely compromise with that press conference and laughter and taunting of House Republicans. My guess is that he has been acting like he was anguished and desperately trying to avoid the cliff.....it was all a show.....from the moment he set the trap two years ago with the sequestering and automatic cuts....he gets all the benefits of balanced budgets which will begin in a few years, and with the Senate being the bad guy.....nothing will get passed....so he will not even have to use the veto.

The simple fact which better sink in.....we are all going to be paying more taxes, and we are going to have significant revenue increases.....damn...we may actually be on a path for a balanced budget in a few years if the economy recovers from this fiscal cliff bump in the recovery.

I liked the President's speech. I think he is setting up Congress to revert back to Democratic control in 2014. That way Obama has two unfettered years to push his agenda forward--at flank speed--during has last two years, and torment and torture right-wing Americans all along the way.

Nope....no such bill has passed the house.

No, not a bill. They are not doing their jobs in that respect. But what I have read in the news is that Republicans will agree to a tax hike if there are cuts in spending.

All the house had to do was sign the senate bill.....the middle class would be fine. No, the president is going to return the torture of his last two years in Congress.....he has flipped the table.......Obama's statement today was spiking the ball.

Yes and that is what you get for voting for him. Remember, he was the better of two evils according to you, FT, Dreams and others. Guess what? We all get to take a bite out of the caca sandwich if he refuses to deal and takes his ball and goes home unless he gets what he wants. Still, he is your man. Quit whining about it. That is what you 51% voted for....enjoy. STFU and quit whining. You got what you want and deserved. People are going to remember when he runs his mouth at the State of the Union Address. They are going to remember his "Junior High School" attitude. The GOP just won both Houses of Congress because he does have to continue "spiking the football". I'd love to play basketball against his ass. He would not have one uncontested shot and when I blocked him, it would be continuous SMACK talk in his face. He'd go home pouting when I was done schooling him and I am near 50 and I play with kids 30 years younger than me every week. He would know humility on the court when I was done with him. Boehner needs to learn to do the same...politically. It is time this asshat knew his place. He pontificates that Congress works for the people all the while thinking he does not and that is his failure as POTUS. He works for everyone despite their political affiliation. That is what he does not get.

I voted for Johnson. I will pay higher taxes if we go over the cliff and I will smile knowing that we are helping my grandchildren. No whining here, I am just calling em like I saw em.....the President just spiked the ball in order to not have Congress reach an Agreement.....it was obvious, and a half hour after I started this thread....John McCain took to the senate floor and said exactly what I have been saying.

Of course, Ron Paul's course is the ideal. That is why I voted for Gary Johnson in November. Neither Boehner's GOP Congress nor Obama and the Democratic Senate will cut enough in the necessary places to make a difference. The theater is fun to watch, though.

My sentiments are exactly as Seoat's, who I think is reading this near 100% straight.

There needs to be deep cuts to every government program in existence, including the sacred ones (entitlements and defense spending). No politician serving today will go there, however. I was reading my copy of Aviation Week magazine today, which is a mouthpiece for the MIC, and defense companies already know their share of the government pie is going to shrink in the coming years. Bloated programs that are poorly managed (and there are several) are going to be cancelled or trimmed and only those which give a good return on investment and are well managed will survive.

I actually agree with you that everything needs to be cut, except I think that Ron Paul would have wanted to cut defense too much. I also agree that neither Republicans or Democrats are willing to make the cuts that are needed. That said, I don't know how you can like the idea of Democrats having the Presidency and control of both Houses of Congress. Shocked

All the Senate had to do was sign the House bill. The middle income people would be fine.

President Barack Hussein Obama doesn't care about revenue or balancing the budget. His goal is to raise rates, Obama fully realizes that revenues will drop but that is not his concern.

Not to be morbid, and I sincerely intend no disrespect, but haven't you said you won't be paying taxes much longer?

So you're saying you will happily pay higher taxes is like those who pay no income taxes today and cheer for others to pay more but not themselves.
