I hear you, Cola Guy. Not putting you on the spot, just pointing out there is a story behind every person and like you say we can't broad brush every situation.

Teo and DE...absolutely food is to be enjoyed! I can slurp with the best of them. Razz

Why is it mandatory for someone to attend a Bible study or a church service just because they are seeking shelter?

Well in a government shelter I am sure you don't but in a private shelter given by Christians it's only proper to honor the host...that would be God....

I think best would be optional. "Please enjoy your meal and, if you like, we have a time of worship and we can pray with you." Optional. God doesn't force.

I donno... if you were a guest at someone's house would you opt out of the prayer before the meal?

I don't think its too much to ask.

Maybe your God doesn't force, mine gets pretty demanding , like a good parent might say EAT THOSE GREEN BEANS or you can't leave the table. Or repent or perish....

My God gives Salvation freely.  The pastor used to scare us with hellfire and brimstone but scared into salvation vs. freely receiving....I'll take the calm, loving, and freely receiving.  Very Happy

Well I kind of figure what ever gets you there is alright.

. 22And of some have compassion, making a difference: 23And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

Interesting. Where is that verse? I'm sure I've heard it but not applied in this context. Good one!

Also, most if not all of the shelters are "church" related and do have requirements.

Strings attached help can definitely be no help at all leaving the homeless person the only "choice" of remaining on the street.

Please show your reliable source for that lie.

Of course "strings" have to be attached. Shelters must segregate the men and women. Do you want people with their fifth of vodka, or whatever bringing it into the shelter. Or their drugs?

"The Shelter" here in Tallahassee has no ties to any particular church. The accept contributions from anyone and anyone may volunteer to help. During exceptionally cold weather, other facilities are opened to house additional people.

Large, red, bold print Markle? Please, don't shout at me or imply I'm lying. It's only a conversation.

And why would I need to show a reliable source? Example would be Waterfront Rescue mission. There are rules for the occupants and recovery programs which require Bible study and counseling. The same was true in "rescue missions" in other towns I have lived.

Am I saying that is wrong? No. I am lying? No. Can we not help people without a string attached? Yes. Do I think helping someone with religious guidelines is wrong? No. But maybe not everyone wants that string attached. A poor or homeless person does not have to lose their dignity or choices in life. They do not need religion shoved at them at their lowest point. Why do these places assume homeless people are without faith? Do all have a "fifth" with them?

Being Poor in America means not having enough money to meet your needs and those of your family -- it doesn't require one to be homeless. Someone who works two part time jobs and still doesn't earn enough to get by, represents much too large a segment of the American public.

And bloodsucking corporations like Walmart rely on the American taxpayer to make up the difference so their underpaid employees can survive.

Reality.

All forms of government aid and support for the homeless and less fortunate has strings attached to it that they must comply with to recieve.

Walmart supports the community.  Every Monday a large semi drops off food to the food pantry in my town.  You can read here about the grants and gifts given across the nation.

You can go to any website of the so-called "bloodsucking corporations" and see how they return to the community and are not all about profit. I've posted a long list before.  I doubt it makes a difference or is recognized by anyone who has an attack mode agenda against corporations.

"Orientals"?

Seriously? Why don't you just use the N word while you are at it?

Almost every large corporation pays lip service to community endeavors. Often it is only that...lip service. If Walmart can't pay employees enough to live on, the taxpayers pick up the tab. This more than outweighs any charitable contribution that might have been made, and does not address the small businesses killed by Walmart price gouging. Sam Walton had a good idea...to bring the "big box" stores to rural areas where there might be a need, using a regional distribution system. Now that has morphed into an international operation that has, in some cases, destroyed smaller businesses with roots in the community. A corporation as profitable as Walmart should be able to pay its employees a living wage.

I see. So you're not willing to give of yourself and provide food and shelter to others... It's something you expect everyone else to do because you say they should. Perhaps you can have the president emplace a property tax that's not a tax throughout the land to provide homes for all and call it...

How about an economy that isn't designed to exploit the middle and poor classes on behalf of the bloodsucking 1%?  How about a livable minimum wage?

You mean Socialism. How well has that worked?

How much is a "livable minimum wage" and why should there be one at all?

You know this but please share with us what percentage of workers, earning minimum wage is the sole worker in a household?

You're miserable, so why not admit that you demand the same for everyone shared misery?

OK, we get it. You worship the rich and work to help them gain more power over the rest of us. Tell us why you hate the poor, please.
