The Democrat Mayor either does not know we have a Constitution or does not care. Much like semi-retired President Obama.

War: City of Houston goes after church sermons

In a subpoena to five members of the Houston Area Pastors Council, the city is requesting a long list of documents and communications. Among them are “all speeches, presentations, or sermons” related to the Equal Rights Ordinance and “all communications with members of your congregation” regarding it and the failed petition against it.

You should care because govt reach doesn't happen in one motion. It happens progressively... bit by bit.

If it's done correctly... the fringes are worked upon so as to weaken the whole while the majority remain apathetic.

I absolutely understand where you're coming from.
But I'm one who doesn't believe a house of worship that avoids paying taxes, should be allowed to advocate political points of view.

The truth is, churches are going to advocate politically anyway -- we'd all be better off to let them do so, and just stop giving churches any tax breaks whatsoever!

I can agree w that. I don't like the govt subsidizing or penalizing any action unless it causes harm.

But that also goes right down to people. Adult humans don't need nannies. Govt has become way too central.

Fact 1:  The Bible is agin queers.  Any real Christian who goes by the Bible has to hate queers and work against queers because that's what the Bible God has ordered them to do.  If they don't do that,  they aint Christians.
It's no different than the debate over the Quran bein agin queers.  For the muslims, the Quran is the "decider" and if they're real muslims they have to be agin queers cause Allah and Mohammed are agin em.

Fact 2:  The Constitution,  as interpreted by the U.S. Supreme Court,  prohibits the Houston City Council (or any government entity) from butting into church sermons.  Period.

Fact 3:   As long as you have Fact 1 and Fact 2,  the whole thing leads to a continual clusterfuck of religion and hate and government wanting to intervene to no avail.  Only a truly moronic politician would believe he/she can override the Constitution.

Fact 4: As long as so many live by the Bible and the Quran, queers will always be despised. It's layed out in the holy books. Trying to pretend it isn't won't make the words disappear from the books.

Here's the big question.  How in the blazes did an openly out of the closet lesbian become the mayor of a city in the most right-wing and most bible thumping state in the country?

I think all non-profits should be done away with and have to rely only on charitable donations. If they can't get enough from charitable donations then...

Oh, the sad irony of preachers working against equal rights. Evil or Very Mad The subpoena is now limited to materials involved in the petition to overturn the ordinance. The groups behind the opposition sued the City to overturn the new regulations. They, therefore, opened the door to scrutiny of their petition drive.

For the Progressives who wish to ignore our First Amendment...AGAIN.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Read us the part again where churches should be granted tax exemptions ...

We're all ears.

Your ignorance on this topic apparently knows no bounds.

You mean Houston is NOT a Progressive city?

You mean Houston is NOT a Progressive city?

You speak about things you simply do not understand, and then bumble some more when corrected. Your understanding of political nomenclature is only matched by your understanding of corn.

So you agree that it is a Progressive city. The last four mayors have all been Progressive Democrats.
