I bought the book, and am about 6 chapters into it. Very interesting. The thing that most resonates is how the Iraq war and its ensuing reconstruction was a total and complete clusterfuck.
The author was a State Department FSO who was there to help oversee reconstruction. He spent a year in Iraq (2009-2010) and was mostly embedded with Army units. Nothing his team tried worked, no matter how much money or effort was thrown at it.
We accomplished nothing in Iraq. We Lost 4,500 soldiers, killed countless Iraqis, tore the country up, and wrecked their society--for a whopping $1.5 trillion dollar cost. There was no victory to be had.
For all of his evil faults Saddam Hussein managed to hold Iraq together. Now wed have ISIS and the country falling apart worse than before we got there. The invasion of Iraq was one big FAIL.

Your response implies that our attack and invasion of Iraq was in retaliation for 9-11. Yet even your former idol Dubya has admitted Saddam and the Iraqis had absolutely nothing to do with 9-11.
