Yes of course religion and religious beliefs and religious intolerance are at the heart of it.
The main source of conflict in the middle east has always been and still is the conflict between the two religious denominations of Islam.
It goes all the way back to the year 632 when Muhammad died. The two denominations (sunni and shia) have always been in a never ending dispute over which was the legitimate successor to Muhammad.
And that dispute has been fought over ever since.

The center of the shia sect is in Iran. The center of the sunnis is in Saudi Arabia.
Sunnis are by far and away the largest of the two sects. Almost 90% of the world's Muslims are Sunni and a little over 10% are Shia.

Actually the original Hebrew translates as 'Thou shalt not murder'.

Not all military members would follow orders that would lead to that Teo and to label all military members as such is a disservice to them.

President Barack Hussein Obama has no interest in enforcing REAL borders on our Southern borders either.

In Iraq that population statistic is in reverse and having lost their stronghold on power in Iraq with Saddam's downfall and the Shia getting more representative power in their government, the pendulum of violence which we had pretty much shut down with the surge has swung back to the Sunnis.

Yes, you and your buddies were just wonderfully successful in shutting down religious conflict in Iraq. All of which was doomed from the beginning. The only guy who was truly successful in governing Iraq was Saddam, and you and your buddies were given orders to terminate his rule so we could "create a functioning democracy."

But I don't blame you Pacedog for the debacle. Like all our armies since WWII you guys were wasted so that the MIC and other plutocrats could make profits.

Like all your buddies, you were victims of Amerika Inc.

Reality.

The U.S. put a shia regime in place in Iraq.

The shia regime despises the sunnis (60% of the population) and left them completely out of any role in governing.
And it spent untold amounts of American treasure to build and train a shia Iraqi military.

The sunnis are now wanting to get revenge and take back the government.
And the Iraqi army we built and trained turns out to be nothing but keystone cops who surrender.

So now we're faced with the prospect of our having to put down the sunni rebellion.  And what does that do?  It creates a whole lot more desire on the part of the sunnis to target Americans for acts of terrorism.

But the talking heads on Fox News are telling their audiences if we don't blow up the sunnis,  that is what will lead to more terrorism.

This is all so insane.
