I spoke with her brother Monday evening, I believe.  She still has the trach but it is plugged most of the day. He said Neko is talking and eating some. Her lungs are still healing and she is in a special rehab facility. She can not walk and they will be doing extinsive rehab to get her up and walking. It will be months.

The most important thing is the relief in the voice of her family...they are thrilled with her progress.  I have to say contrary to things that have been said......Neko is well loved by the two brothers that I know and by her husband and children. Her family is special.

Sorry for the delay. It was unavoidable.

I had a mild pneumonia since Thursday a week ago. I saw the doctor on Friday and Monday....and my lungs were not responding to antibiotics and my temps spiked to 103 daily. Wednesday 2/5 I was admitted through the ER and I'm still in the hospital with severe bilateral pneumonia. I'm on 2 hard core IV antibiotics, steroids, anti coagulation drugs, breathing treatments every 4 hours. I was suppose to go home this am but my left lobe is worse and I will be here several more days.

Thank you but no thanks. On a positive note I have been swabbed 3 times for the flu and I do not have it. I have never had a flu shot.

I am very sorry to hear that you are ill and in the Hospital.
You are by no means "slacking" and you have a damn good excuse.
Get well soon!

Great Truths of Age

GREAT TRUTHS...
THAT LITTLE CHILDREN HAVE LEARNED
1) No matter how hard you try, you can't baptize cats.
2) When your Mom is mad at your Dad, don't let her brush your hair.
3) If your sister hits you, don't hit her back. They always catch the second person.
4) Never ask your 3-year old brother to hold a tomato.
5) You can't trust dogs to watch your food.
6) Don't sneeze when someone is cutting your hair.
7) Never hold a Dust-Buster and a cat at the same time.
Cool You can't hide a piece of broccoli in a glass of milk.
9) Don't wear polka-dot underwear under white shorts.
10) The best place to be when you're sad is Grandpa's lap.

GREAT TRUTHS...
THAT ADULTS HAVE LEARNED
1) Raising teenagers is like nailing Jell-O to a tree.
2) Wrinkles don't hurt.
3) Families are like fudge...mostly sweet, with a few nuts.
4) Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground.
5) Laughing is good exercise. It's like jogging on the inside.
6) Middle age is when you choose your cereal for the fiber, not the toy.

GREAT TRUTHS...
ABOUT GROWING OLD
1) Growing up is mandatory; growing old is optional.
2) Forget the health food. I need all the preservatives I can get.
3) When you fall down, you wonder what else you can do while you're down there.
4) You're getting old when you get the same sensation from a rocking chair that you once got from a roller coaster.
5) It's frustrating when you know all the answers but nobody bothers to ask you the questions.
6) Time may be a great healer, but it's a lousy beautician.
7) Wisdom comes with age, but sometimes age comes alone.

So you are also in the hospital, Joanie? You should have told us earlier so we could be thinking of you.

I spent 10-days in Sacred Heart with pneumonia in December of 08. I hope to never have to repeat that episode.

Prayers to both you and Neko. Get well soon....

Neko, it is so magical to read your written words . . . all your friends on this forum have been so very concerned but you seem to be gaining ground on your infection and growing stronger . . . bit by bit. This unfortunately is a long drawn out ordeal for which I am so sorry. Continue with your determination and grit to live and torment Mr. Oats long into the future!

To joani; I am so sorry that it escaped me that you too are ill and hospitalized. I wish you nothing but strength to forge ahead and get your ass out of there asap before they kill you . . . but you already know that.

We'll throw some prayers your way. Just watch out what they do to you. I didn't know they had put me on a morphine drip until after I was ready to go home. It explains some of the weird dreams I had a few nights--including flying around on a magic carpet one night.

I hope I can get you fired up and well, but it is getting scary the number of people this winter who have had lung issues. Get well. We take breathing for granted, and I can tell you I NEVER want to go back to having any issues with my lungs......it is most unpleasant when you cannot breathe.

Joani, I am so sorry.  I hope you will be well enough to go home soon.  So glad that you are not testing positive for the flu, that's one very bright spot.  I'm not usually much of a praying person, but I have been praying for Neko's recovery and will definitely pray for you as well.

I knew Neko would have a long haul to get back to normal.  I hope she continues to make progress.

Seems like a lot of illness among the few posters we have here.  Maybe I should use my hand sanitizer before logging on here....

I spoke with Neko's brother this afternoon. He and his brother just got back from visiting Neko. Her mind is sharp but she has a long way to go with rehab. Neko was excited to see her brothers. They said she is doing well.

I'm lost here? What happens after you have the flu and pnuemonia Does your body just collapse and you become a quadraplegic?

If you lose lung capacity, you become incredibly weak. After they removed the upper lobe, it took me months to get my strength back, but the regeneration is amazing, and eventually doing breathing exercises I got capacity back to about 70% pre surgery. In my experience, my second big P........well I thought I was going to die.....I could not breathe....I had no strength, and there were times I felt like I was drowning. I was weaker for about three to five weeks, and it was during this period that I got a second opinion from the doctor who insisted that I had asthma. Loss of lung capacity is a nightmare, and when I awoke after the removal of the lob and tumor and was not on a ventilator after seven hours of surgery, I was never going to sweat the little things again, and the experience changed my life for the better. When Neko rejoins us she will have hard earned wisdom, and she will know what is important.
