Seriously, dude ...

Have you ever had a full blown case of influenenza?

I'm not talking about a bad cold or stomach virus ...

I had something the first month I moved to Pensacola Dec 1976. It was very bad and I was delirious for a time. Back then I thought nothing of getting shots. I got them whenever they were available. I read a book, Confessions of a Medical Heretic 1979. That book changed my life and outlook on medical "science". FOREVER.

My mother got breast cancer from taking hormones for twenty years that was supposed to protect your heart and they discovered it was bad for your heart twenty years later.

I changed from the art of medicine to the science of medicine some where along the way..really an art is much more appropriate because it's not a science.

I've never had a flu shot. I have thought about it.

Why haven't you gotten one?

My mother always go the flu shot......and each year she would get so damn sick. I finally insisted she break it up into two doses. She still got sick but not as bad.

As for me, having worked in the ER so many years I really believe my immunity was built up.  I never got sick, even after being exposed to so many contagious illnesses. Now, I am thinking about it.

That's a hell of a job working in the ER. I watch that ER show and I could never do that. The stress alone will kill you.

I agree.

Hey Neko.

A blonde was visiting Washington, DC for the first time. She wanted to see the Capital building. Unfortunately, she couldn't find it, so she asked a police officer for directions - "Excuse me, officer, how do I get to the Capital building?"

The officer replied, "Wait here at this bus stop for the number 54 bus. It'll take you right there." She thanked the officer and he drives off.

Three hours later the police officer returned to the same area and, sure enough, the blonde is still waiting at the same bus stop.

The officer got out of his car and said, "Excuse me, but to get to the Capital building, I said to wait here for the number 54 bus and that was three hours ago! Why are you still waiting?"

The blonde replied, "Don't worry, officer, it won't be long now... The 45th bus just went by!"

=====================================

A guy is reading his paper when his wife walks up behind him and smacks him on the back of the head with a frying pan.
He asks, "What was that for?"
She says, "I found a piece of paper in your pocket with 'Betty Sue' written on it."
He says, "Jeez, honey, remember last week when I went to the track? 'Betty Sue' was the name of the horse I went there to bet on." She shrugs and walks away. Three days later he's reading his paper when she walks up behind him and smacks him on the back of the head again with the frying pan.
He asks, "What was that for?"
She answers, "Your horse called."

I hope that got a smile. Keep up the good work in therapy.

For Neko and Granny:

Stumpy Grinder and his wife Martha were from Portland, Maine. Every year they went to the Portland Fair and every year Stumpy said, "Ya know, Mahtha, I'd like ta get a ride in that theah aihplane." And every year, Martha would say "I know, Stumpy, but that aihplane ride costs ten dollahs .. and ten dollahs is ten dollahs."
So one year Stumpy says, "By Jeebers, Mahtha, I'm 71 yeahs old, and if I don't go this time I may nevah go." Martha replies, "Stumpy, that there aihplane ride is ten dollahs ... and ten dollahs is ten dollahs."
So the pilot overhears then and says, "Folks, I'll make you a deal. I'll take you both up for a ride. If you can stay quiet for the entire ride and not say ONE WORD, then I won't charge you. But just ONE WORD and it's ten dollars."
They agree and up they go... the pilot does all kinds of twists and turns, rolls and dives, but not a word is heard. He does it one more time, and there is still no word... so he lands.
He turns to Stumpy as they come to a stop and says, "By golly, I did everything I could think of to get you to holler out, but you didn't."
And Stumpy replies "Well, I was gonna say something when Mahtha fell out ... but ten dollahs is ten dollahs."

Neko...I have been slacking in my duties.

I spoke with her brother Monday evening, I believe. She still has the trach but it is plugged most of the day. He said Neko is talking and eating some. Her lungs are still healing and she is in a special rehab facility. She can not walk and they will be doing extinsive rehab to get her up and walking. It will be months.

The most important thing is the relief in the voice of her family...they are thrilled with her progress. I have to say contrary to things that have been said......Neko is well loved by the two brothers that I know and by her husband and children. Her family is special.

Sorry for the delay. It was unavoidable.

I had a mild pneumonia since Thursday a week ago. I saw the doctor on Friday and Monday....and my lungs were not responding to antibiotics and my temps spiked to 103 daily. Wednesday 2/5 I was admitted through the ER and I'm still in the hospital with severe bilateral pneumonia. I'm on 2 hard core IV antibiotics, steroids, anti coagulation drugs, breathing treatments every 4 hours. I was suppose to go home this am but my left lobe is worse and I will be here several more days.

I'm m not a happy camper and yelling at Seaoat is somehow therapeutic.
