It's long at almost 3 hours, but well worth the watch.

It's okay but if you want to see a REALLY compelling movie it's "Someplace Behind the Pines" which was released on DVD this week (and Redbox has it).

I'll download it over the weekend.

You thought Cloud Atlas was just OK?

I thought it was far less than OK, It was so boring to me and my wife that we were no able to sit through half of it.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and ours is that the movie stunk to high heaven.

I watched Mud a couple of weeks ago.

I didn't have high hopes because I don't think I'd ever seen a movie with
Matthew McConaughey that I liked.

It is a damn fine film.

Damn. Well what would you consider to be a good movie that you saw recently?

Bob, shouldn't that be "The Place Beyond the Pines"? I cannot find anything listed at Redbox under the title of "Someplace Behind the Pines".

Honestly, I have not seen any movie recently that has left a lasting impression on me.

Yeah that kid got a really good lesson on how fickle and conniving women are..too bad old Mud took so long to learn it.

That's it.
As a geezer I now judge movies by the "doze factor".  It's few movies I can sit all the way through anymore without dozing.  And this one registered zero dozes on the dozemeter. Kept my attention from the opening credits to the closing credits.

Is it better than red tails?

It was a little too "avante-garde'ish" for my taste. I don't mind that style but a little goes a long way and a lot doesn't do it for me.

Watched another of this week's DVD releases. 'The Iceman'. I can recommend that too.
It's the true story of the mafia hitman Richard Kuklinski who killed as many as 200 people. After I watched it I googled the real story and this is one time Hollywood very faithfully portrayed the true story as it actually occurred.

Saw Pain and Gain..Hated it...I liked the two main actors too much to see them in such a dark comedy...I don't care if it really happened..This would have been better with Steve Buscemi or Brad Pitt...The rock should never be a villain...

I will add one to my list. That is "Flight", only because I am a big Denzel Washington and #2, the redeeming factor of the movie he had the fortitude to admit the error of his ways.

I enjoyed "The Host", great chick flick but not enough violence for a man. Kinda like invasion of the Body snatchers but gentler.

I saw the actual interviews w/ him in prison and a psychiatrist on HBO. You can see it on the internet. He is very scary. He is a sad example of what child abuse does to a person. His father beat him above and beyond what any person should ever have to endure.

I haven't seen any movies recently that I was excited about either, but I did watch an older movie the other night called Bravo Two Zero that was excellent. It was the true story of some British commandos who were sent to knock out Saddam Hussein's scuds just before the first Gulf War. It was made in 1999, and starred Sean Bean as an actual good guy this time. I got a real appreciation for the guy's acting after watching the movie. I've usually seen him in roles as a villain  before.  If you like action flicks, it was very good.

I watched it again on Youtube and recalled having watched it when it first came out.  What's the most scary to me is how normal and calm he appears.  If I was to have met him in business, I could see socializing with him and doing business.  Not THAT kind of business.

They describe psychopaths as being void of feeling and you could see that in what Kuklinski entire demeanor.

Neither he nor his brother had any empathy, feelings or soul.  Yes, he was beaten as a child, tens of millions of children are beaten as a child and don't turn out to be stone cold killers.  Ted Bundy, who wasn't paid for his numerous murders, blamed pornography.  I think some people are just born evil.
