The President is going to tell us he'll pull a little more than half our troops in Afghanistan by January 2014.

Why not pull all our troops this afternoon? Let's face it, our heavy-handed, brutal and bloody occupation of THEIR country hasn't made us any real friends -- unless you count Karzai and his corrupt cohorts who suck millions from our "aid" dollars to their dysfunctional tribal country, as "friends."

After January 2014, we'll still have some 30,000 troops in-country. Not enough to save Karzai from the Taliban and all the other "insurgents" [insurgent means someone who fights against a legitimate government -- since when is our presence in Afghanistan legitimate?], many of whom turned against us body and soul after we mistakenly wiped out their families or kids with a dose of 105mm shells, napalm, rocket fire, or the whirligig gun on the nose of one of our A10s. It's convenient for our generals (when they aren't chasing pussy with some voracious socialite) and our PR people to continually represent our enemies in Afghanistan as Taliban -- even though the broad majority of those who try to kill us may be patriots who plainly want the white, christian invaders to leave their country. Maybe someone here can tell me what percent of those who are dedicated to killing our troops in Afghanistan are Taliban or just plain Afghans who want us the hell out?

Why should we stay another week?

There are several reasons why we stay.

1. they hate us for our freedoms

2. we don't want to cut and run before the job is done

3. if we don't fight em over there we'll have to fight em over here.

4. if we pull out that will lead to sharia law in America

5. because obama is a muslim too

6. we're spreading democracy

7. we have to keep the lines for the opium trade open

8. the domino theory. if we lose in afghanistan, muslims will take over the world

9. since world war 2 we've lost a lot more wars than we've won so we're trying to get our numbers up

10. because whenever obama pulls out, the right-wing media will crucify him for losing the war and he wants to delay that as long as possible

11. a lot of profits are being made by war companies as long as the madness continues.

12. we're a country in decline and this is what countries on the decline have always done (blow what's left of their national treasury on useless wars).

13. because russ limbaugh still supports the war and so do most of the rest of those chickenhawks with the biggest soapboxes.

14. it's all just a hallucination. the war ended when bush hung that "mission accomplished" banner.

15. for oil

Well, certainly #11 and #12 are true.

There's also one you left off your list ...

16. because Pakistan is unstable and nuclear armed, and we need to be close enough to respond quickly if the nukes become insecure and to kill radicals with drone strikes.

That one might sound like a pretty good argument. Until you realize that 400 miles of the Pakistan border fronts on one of the largest open oceans in the world where we should have and likely do have more naval power deployed than the Klingons have in the Neutral Zone.
