Ya got a lot ya say....?

I'm ready for all of the gun freaks on here to line up and explain what exactly they think their arsenal is gonna do to "protect them from a tyrannical Gub'ment..."

I own guns. But the one I embrace that trumps all of yours is in the hands of the US of America. I have a huge gun if there comes an armed revolt from you nut-job pseudo patriots.

You gonna protect your home with a fully auto AK-47...? An M-16...? A 50cal...? Your ever so deadly multiple handguns...?

Don't make me LOL. I've got a tank that will blast a hole right through your vacuous dreams of adequacy. Got a bunker...? I've got laser guided bunker busters.

In fact, short of a huge bomb that's cumbersome and unwieldy, there's not a damned that you have that will be an effective defense from my collective "gun".

So here's your chance boys....step right up and tell us all about how you plan to use those guns you so love to hoard.

This should be interesting if not downright ridiculous.

I do not own a gun. It is my choice. I believe our constitution protects the right to gun ownership and I support that right.

Own all the guns you all want. I support rationing your ammunition so you can still have your constitutional rights.

Dreams......at times you are not thinking....but in fairness, I will bite. Do you understand that some of these 3d printers are producing working guns, building components from commonly available. You start messing with rationing ammunition and all you will do is be counter productive, both in the constitutional arena, and in the common sense arena.

First, the reason I used the vehicle for the nexus of gun safety is because the supreme court has been clear that driving is a privilege. Now if you decide to pass laws with a classification system it must pass equal protection guidelines and where the rights granted fall within the purview of the 2nd amendment.....then you have to show a compelling state interest to implement that classification. I believe the current assault weapon ban can easily meet the threshold of compelling state interest.....however, I do not think a general rationing of ammunition can be separated from guns, and the distinction is completely sophomoric paradigm to think that .....hey the 2nd amendment says nothing about ammo......but even more important is are you going to limit my shotgun shells, or my vermin 22.......really. Do you understand how counterproductive this will be on real gun identification, and closing the 40% invisible transactions a year.

I will fight you tooth and nail if you try to take my guns or limit my ammo. You will lose. So why fight the battle. However, getting assault weapons off the street.....I do not think you could get 20% of folks against this......and I believe that chips and smart foid cards when dealing with transport of weapons could easily pass constitutional tests, and would not be intrusive in the average gun owners life.

Now having said that, how long do you think it would take to create a black market on ammo on the internet. I buy 50 boxes of 22 bullets, and reach my threshold, and simply do what people are doing on the internet with guns.....direct sales.......tell me how you are going to attack that loophole.....hire more government for after the fact enforcement.....Nope the answer lies in obvious banning of assault weapons, better waiting periods, closing gun transfer loopholes, trigger locks, and chips....tied into a national database with dynamic foid cards interacting with control modules on autos.........very cost effective proactive methods of gun safety....without such a doomed to fail frontal assault on guns.

Hmmmm. None of the dead fingers crowd are gonna reply....? That's odd. They have no problem on other threads telling me what I am and all about their rights and how they need an arsenal cause Obama's gonna git 'em.

I would think there would be at least one of the group with the balls to man up and explain exactly what they plan to do if it does come down to a ban on certain types of weapons they insist they must have to protect the USC from abrogation.

I'm open minded if they have a valid argument, but I'm sorry....I just do not see one.

How do you folk expect to stand up to a tyrannical gub'mint if you can't even do so to a loud mouth who indicts the credibility of your argument....?

After what has happened, this issue is not gonna go away any time soon.

I am a collector and have been for thirty years. Most of the firearms I own are antiques, my oldest is from 1874 it is a Sharps .50-90 I paid $100 for at a yard sale in 1988. It was in pretty bad shape and took 5 years to restore it. First shoot I took with it scared the shit out of me, didn't know if I was going to hit the target or have it blow up in my face. My favorite by far was my last purchase a couple of years back, a bolt action .338 Lapua Magnum. Just an extremely accurate rifle that hits like a freight train at any distance. It is a whole lot of fun hunting prarie dogs with that rifle. I enjoy collecting all types of weapons. For me owning firearms is a hobby, I enjoy hunting, going to a range target shooting, skeet shooting, and I do own assault rifles just because they are fun to shoot and hope to one day get an old browning .50 cal with the butterfly trigger.

And yes I have hunted with an assault rifle. Anyone who says you can't hunt with an assault rifle is a freaking idiot who doesn't know jack shit about hunting or firearms. Is it an ideal firearm for hunting? no it is not. A couple of years ago I was in Tennessee visiting a family member that I was buying an AR10 from and ran into an old family friend. After talking for a while he asked if I wanted to go out hunting with them in the morning, I politely declined because I didn't have anything except the gun I just bought and had no gear what so ever. Well mainly I didn't want to be called a redneck for hunting with an assault rifle or take my brand new AR10 traipsing through the woods but after his constant nagging I figured what the hell why not. Ended up with a nice little 6 point and was pretty amazed at how accurate my new AR10 was then I realized I had to clean the damn thing and drive back home to Florida with it in the trunk of a car. I have not used it for that purpose since but it was good knowing I could if I wanted to. Like I said is it an ideal weapon for hunting? Hell NO, but it damn sure will work just fine unless your some anti gun nazi shithead who doesn't know his ass from a whole in the ground. In which case your to stupid for your opinion to matter. So if someone wants to call me a redneck, fine, it's still better than being called a liberal.

I am an avid reloader and have been for as long as I have been collecting firearms. I started reloading because it saved a ton of money especially with the large calibers and the exotics. Some of the rifles I own ammunition is no longer manufactured and what you can find is old as dirt and unsafe. I pretty much stopped buying ammunition 10 years ago, now i just buy components and make my own except for 7.62x39. 7.62x39 is dirt cheap, cheaper than reloading it and my AK's eat it up. I reloaded 7.62 once with brand new shinny brass, perfectly measured load, 124grain hornaday balistic tips which would be great for hunting but didn't feed for crap, every 5th or 6th one it would stovepipe so I just gave up with 7.62, put the good old cheap russian ammo back in and they can eat a 30 rnd clip in seconds with no problem. It is fun experimenting with different combinations then going out back and testing them out. I even played around with milling and casting my own bullets but it was just to much of a pain in the ass and it was just asking for something bad to happen. It is impressive to see the accuracy and range you can get from reloads over store bought ammunition, if anything it has greatly reduced the time I've spent tracking deer through the woods after the shot I took was a couple of inches off and it took off running. I just love all the little intricacies of reloading although I have destroyed a couple of firearms from pushing load limits it is still a fun relaxing hobby that helps me unwind.

I've never heard the argument that you can't hunt with an assault weapon.
The argument I hear is that no one needs an assault weapon to hunt, which is certainly true.
Hell, you could hunt with a bazooka, but you wouldn't have much to eat or hang on your wall afterwards.

This is a true story - my son is friends with a kid who is from a family of true old Florida rednecks. Big-hearted, good people, but as crude and unrefined as you could possibly imagine. Anyway, the kid's father gets to telling me about the gun sports he enjoys and about how they make their own ammunition. They have a bunch of kids/grandkids and apparently use them all in an assembly-line type production. Well, one of their more citified neighbors caught wind of their ammunition operation, and called the cops. The cops pay them a visit, and are a little taken aback by the kids. One asks, "Why is the five-year-old handling the gun powder", and received the obvious reply, "Because he's the only one who doesn't smoke." The cops left scratching their heads but no charges. LMAO.

That is a funny story and the sad part is I can just imagine rednecks doing that. Personally I would never allow a 5yo to touch anything to do with firearms.

Here is the issue for me. You are absolutely correct when you state people do not need assault weapons to hunt but it is not an issue of need or necessity for me it is an issue of do I have the freedom to do so if I desire to, if I am a responsible legal firearm owner and want to get my redneck on by hunting with my assault rifle why should I not have the freedom to do so? Yeah it is idiotic and most people would think it just plain stupid but does that mean the government should dictate it because there is simply no need for it? I do not think there is a need for spending thousands or millions of dollars on art. There is no "need" for it and I think it is absolutely stupid and ridiculous but I'd bet W.T.M. would completely and adamantly disagree until his dying breath. Thats what is great about this country W.T.M. can go to an art show see a painting that truly moves him and drop 20k on it if he desires to do so and doesn't have to worry about someone denying him that freedom based off of what his needs are. That is what has made this country great, our government does not dictate our lives based off of what our needs are.

Sal thank you for the civil discourse.

Well, I guess the obvious answer to that argument would be, a lunatic is not going to storm a school and mow down a bunch of innocent 7-year-old babies with a 20k painting.

For me, it's becoming a public health and safety issue.

No argument, you are absolutely correct it is a public health and safety issue. As a civilized society do we not have an obligation to our fellow citizens to investigate all possible reasons for these atrocities. Politicians have a nasty habit of passing laws based off of emotion and knee jerk reactions to an incident that do not correct or fix a problem but they do give us the illusion that they have just so we can feel better about doing something. Politicians spend more time figuring out what suit they will wear for the day than they do writing laws. I just want a solution that will fix the problem not more gun laws that do not fix the problem.

We have a few guns in the house. My husband carries a 38, in the zipped gun case, in his glove compartment. It is registered. We also have a 22 rifle and 2 muzzle-loaders...one a pistol and the other built from a kit...Hawking, I think. I'm really not a gun lover, but I know how to shoot, as do my daughters, who shot targets with a pellet gun when they were growing up and later on the real thing, but with complete supervision. So, I believe in gun safety and the ability to operate a weapon, but it's very hard for me to kill a living thing. That doesn't mean to detract from those who hunt for food...it's about as old as time itself. It's just that I don't want to be the one doing it...which is not to say I wouldn't shoot someone who threatened me or my family...ok, that's too many negatives, but I hope it's clear.

People shouldn't be allowed to own AKs or any other type of rifle that was basically engineered to kill other human beings. A line has to be drawn somewhere.

I have one semi-automatic rifle, two handguns and several canisters of pepper spray.

Here's the bottom line on all this gun controversy. I really don't have any objection to them banning some of these semi-automatic rifles and larger capacity ammo clips which is what is about to happen.
But these bans will be "feelgood" laws. They'll make everybody feel good and give them a false sense of stopping mass shootings. And they probably will have some impact on how many people can be mowed down in a given time at a mass shooting and that's a good thing.
But there are already about 500 trillion of these things in people's hands. And if they outlaw the sale of them tomorrow it will make it harder to get one. But it won't stop them. It will drive the sales underground is all, no different than every other Prohibition which has ever been enacted.
We live in a gun culture just like we live in an alcohol culture. And Prohibition DOES NOT work with either.
Mark my words, there will continue to be mass shootings after this ban is enacted. You heard it here first.

Boards that is a completely ignorant statement. Every gun ever designed in human history was designed for the purpose of killing something and will kill a human being. My TenPoint Carbon Xtra crossbow will kill a human, my pickup truck will kill someone, my kitchen knives will kill a human. Come on boards your better than that stop reacting with pure emotion at put some of that big brain power you have in it, you just got your Masters.

it is not an issue of need or necessity for me it is an issue of do I have the freedom to do so if I desire to,

Gun and Auto safety regulations do impact freedom. A price which must be paid in a civilized society. Unreasonable gun or auto regulations will not be supported, but reasonable and effective safety regulation will be supported.........this concept of freedom is an absolute which in any context of a civilized nation state is limiting on the individual.....so if it is not an absolute.....then is it not time to work for effective safety in regards to vehicles and guns.

I have personally driven a TA challenger at 140 mph on an interstate highway, and damn it in Germany they allow you to go fast so why should I tolerate the state taking my freedom away to drive again at 140mph? It is time to quit the false equivalency and begin to focus on the issue at hand SAFETY

alecto wrote:Boards that is a completely ignorant statement.

I'm talking about assault rifles here - weapons that serve no other purpose but for combat against human beings. If we're not going to outlaw people owning AKs or other types of weapons that are intended for the battlefield, then my suggestion is that we apply strict liability to the ownership of said weapons. If someone gets off on playing with assault rifles, fair enough. But if their gun falls into the hands of someone who decides to go on a killing spree, the original owner should share the same sentence as the thief who went on the spree. Your gun was stolen and the thief robbed a store and killed a bystander? You will receive the same sentence as they do. Perhaps with strict liability people would hold a greater appreciation for the weapons that they view as toys that are to be played with at the range.

Should I be allowed to own an RPG? Bazooka? How about a pet lion? I want to house three pet lions in my backyard. Why are my rights being infringed upon here?

Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.

SWITZERLAND ISSUES EVERY HOUSEHOLD A GUN!
SWITZERLAND'S GOVERNMENT TRAINS EVERY ADULT THEY ISSUE A RIFLE to.
SWITZERLAND HAS THE LOWEST GUN RELATED CRIME RATE OF ANY CIVILIZED COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!!!

Yes we have discussed your ideas of vehicles and safety in great detail. Unfortunately we have come to an impasse as to the effectiveness of how well it would work to prevent massacres like this. You armed with simply your "Ideas" says it will work, I armed with the" technical logistics" says it is doable in time with truck loads of money but will not work.
