Yes, it would be great to get back to a time when not everything in this country and its culture had to be about combativeness, divisiveness, contentiousness, confrontation and mutual disrespect.   These are, sadly, the characteristics today's younger generations seem to want to see - and good ol' capitalist sellers, whether of goods or of entertainment, will always cater to the market that's buying.

Is this sadly perverted hunger for the worst in us engendered by violent video games, or meanness in Saturday morning cartoons, or TV crime shows and movies vying to depict the most heinous violations ever seen?  Is it also encouraged by the loudly hateful, brash and bombastic conservative talk shows so many either love or detest? How about all the 'reality' TV shows that thrive on conflict?  Where do we assign blame for what our society has become, as evidenced by the vitriol demonstrated daily on this very online forum?

Doubtless sociological treatises are being written all the time about the American culture's descent into meanness and nastiness, and it may not be fully understood for decades or even centuries hence, presuming human society survives that long.

But one thing's for sure:  To seek to blame everything that's wrong about us on one single political ideology is just plain narrow-minded ignorance at its worst, and only aids in fanning the flames of that same destructiveness you yourself decry.
