Been watching Chris Matthews be interviewed about this on MSNBC this morning.
He's done a documentary on Trump that will air tonight at 6 and it appears it's going to be a different take on Trump than we usually get from either side.
Might be worth a watch.

It may not matter.

Trump's support amongst evangelicals and low education folks is melting away, and they're moving into Cruz's camp.

I think we're about to see just how much you can stomach, Bob.

Cruz is an evangelical theocrat with a retrograde agenda that would've been outdated in the 1860s.

Cruz is evil. He has manipulated Trump, and understands that there will be a brokered convention.

It's too much to hope for to learn he is quitting......

If Barrack Obama was not qualified to run for president because he allegedly was born in Kenya, as most right wingnut "birthers" believe, then the same analogy applies to Ted Cruz, who was born in Canada.

Our most ardent birther is not with us any more (until he comes back as he always does....), and his very hypocritical answer to this question was: "Deal with it!!!"

It's melting away in Iowa.  Just like,  before this,  in the same Iowa it melted toward President Santorum and President Huckabee and President Cain.  lol

Before we pronounce Trump's candidacy to be dead,  I just thought it might be interesting to wait only 40 minutes more (the show starts at 6)  to see what Chris Matthews has to say about what he's calling "Citizen Trump".
This won't be Fox News talking or Rush Limbaugh talking.  It will be the person who said Obama gave him a tingle up his leg.
I watched him do 3 interviews this morning pitching the documentary.  And from what I gleaned from that tells me this is going to be a different take than the usual content which is either "Trump is God" or "Trump is Hitler".
It won't kill us to watch it and nobody's eye will get put out.  So at least wait another hour and a half before we nail the coffin on Trump's candidacy.  lol
I think more than anything it's going to help us understand why Trump has this appeal to his constituency and who all that constituency is.
And from the earlier interviews,   I think Matthews is going to make the case that Trump appeals to more than just knuckle dragging, bible thumping racist crackers with a 6th grade education.  And why.  lol

I am indeed a cracker.  But I have more than a 6th grade education (although admittedly at Draft Dodger College).  And I'm not racist (seaoat's opinion notwithstanding lol).  And I don't drag my knuckles (hell at this age I can't get my knuckles lower than 3 feet from the floor).  And I don't perceive myself to be a bible thumper (at least not in my opinion). And last but not least I'm actually a "progressive".  Just ask markle.

But right now I would vote for Trump.  So maybe there are more like me.  You're not afraid to find that out are you (what a loaded question)?  lol

And even though I would vote for Trump,  I will acknowledge that Z has just pointed out the one really stupefying thing about the Trump show to me.

1. Trump was the country's leading birther although he's now abandoned that whole episode.

2.  Cruz was admittedly born outside the country.  And his father was born outside the country.  And his mother was born inside the country.
Exactly what Trump and the birthers want to impeach obama for.

3.  Trump wanted  to expose one ineligible president.

4.  Trump is big buds with the other ineligible president.

Conclusion:  On this Trump is nothing but a goddamn hypocrite

However,  even though I acknowledge this,  it's not a dealbreaker for me.
Just like Slick Willy getting the blow job from the white house intern was not a deal breaker for you and sal and seaoat and florida texan.  Even though when he was asked if he had sex with "that woman",  he said it depends on what the meaning of the word is is.  Maybe not hypocrisy but a crock of horseshit. Same as trump's birther horseshit.   But not deal breakers for any of the five of us.  None of these politician cocksuckers are perfect.

Here's what I took away from watching "Citizen Trump".

Immediately after the program ended,  before I could change the channel to Bill O'Reilly,  the most beautiful face appeared on the screen.  She's the host of the next Trump hit piece which immediately followed the first one ("Citizen Kane").
I have to tell you I flat don't care if she hates Trump or even despises Trump with every bone in her face er I mean body.   Because that's all canceled out by the fact of how absolutely knockout beautiful she is.
Politics takes a backseat to more important stuff.  And her beauty just took my breath away.  She has the most naturally beautiful smile of any human I've ever seen and I'll even extend that to any and all other animals (except for maybe only the Bengal Tiger.  Nothing else compares to that.  If it wouldn't be fatal for me I'd even want to have sex with one of those).  But Alex (I think that's her name).  Omigod.
Trump who?  Who cares.

Okay I'll give you the serious reaction.
Firstly,  I was misled.  Badly.  I watched three different interviews with Chris Matthews on three different MSNBC programs this morning which had him pitching this program tonight.  Each interview lasted about 5 minutes or so.
And in each,  Matthews painted a completely different picture of this program than what I just watched.
When he showed clips from the program,  all he showed was the 3 or 4% of the program which was not hit piece material like all the rest of it.  Like Trump being a hero for restoring a municipal skating rink in Manhattan when the city government couldn't do it.   And then Matthews would speak about how the show is going to tell us what a competent and successful "builder" Donald Trump is.  And then he said this program will "show us that what Donald Trump means to his supporters is an alternative to the rest of the hacks in both political parties who have screwed the country up".
When I heard that,  I was stunned.  I said to myself "is Chris Matthews really going to take an hour of MSNBC to do a sendup of Donald Trump?"  But that's what it appeared to be.

If you watched the program,  you of course know that isn't what you saw.
I can think of only one explanation for why Matthews would go on liberal media and imply to that audience that this show will be,  if not a sendup,  then a "fair and balanced" take on Donald Trump,  and then have the audience tune in to see a hit piece on Donald Trump.
It's because either he's got the same instincts as Trump,  or he's adopted the Trump strategy.  Which is "say anything to attract a crowd whether you deliver on it or not because it worked for P.T. Barnum and it will still work today"

Which it does.  lol

p.s.  I bet Trump is already doing the tweets to say what he thinks about this one.  And my guess is it will be a lot uglier than what you saw with Jeb,  Meghan,  Carli,  the mexicans or even the muslims.  Probably about the same level of histeria as you saw with his tweets about rosie o' donnell.  lol

It was a puff piece originally started when Trump was still part of NBC.....there were clear quotes which were from a couple of years ago when it appears they started the project and used mostly old tapes. I think Democrats are cheering for Trump and Cruz. The puff piece confirmed that Matthews wants Trump as a candidate, and he is friendly with Trump to boot so he looses no traction by the puff piece.

Hospital Bob

I don't know,  seaoat.  If I wanted to do a puff piece on Trump I cannot imagine I would do it by putting Trump in bed with Joe McCarthy.  About the only thing left after that is to put him in bed with Adolf Hitler.
I never heard of puff pieces bein done that way.
But with the world as strange as it's gotten now,  who knows,  maybe that's the new way to do it.  lol

2seaoat

As the piece said having a ruthless lawyer who took no prisoners and was the brains behind McCarthyism...... well Trump is proud of that....pure puff.

Seaoat,  this comment just floors me.  I thought you were actually knowledgable about all this stuff we talk about here.  Even more than me.

But it appears you don't even know who Roy Cohn was.  I gotta tell you,  that's like the curtain opening up on the Wizard of Oz for me.  Now I know what Dorothy felt like.  lol

Roy Cohn became as bad or maybe even worse of a national pariah than McCarthy did.  He was to McCarthy what Cheney was to Bush.  And history now now puts both of them on about the same level as Benedict Arnold.
You don't do a puff piece on someone by putting him in bed with two Benedict Arnolds.
At least not in the world I thought I lived in.  If there's something about that  which is just escaping me,  then as I said two days ago,  we have actually entered into The Twilight Zone.  lol

Also,  I just watched the first half of Maddow's program which follows it.
If that one was a puff piece then "Reefer Madness" was a puff piece for marijuana.
And rarely does any cable tv news show do a whole half hour on grinding just one axe and that includes all three networks.
Educate me further,  seaoat.  What am I missing?  lol

Teo,

I need to point out a political reality here.  Yes I'm aware that right-wing AM radio talk show hosts (and usually that means a combination of right-wing politics in combination with right-wing Christianity) and their audiences say Joe McCarthy was an American hero.

But aside from any partisanship either liberal,  conservative,  moderate,  tea party,  socialist,  progressive, communist,  libertarian or what have you,  beyond that partisanship is the political reality.  And it's this...

There are not enough of you who believe that to make a dent in a general Presidential election.  And that's even if you include ALL the Trump supporters in that.  That is still a minority position.  And even if it is due to brainwashing and even if McCarthy needs to be put on Mt. Rushmore,  I assure you the majority opinion is that McCarthy was a wild out of control menace who thought everyone other than himself and Cohn were potentially traitors who should be treated like traitors.  Just because Alex Jones doesn't have that opinion is not enough for a Trump to win so it in effect makes his whole candidacy an exercise in futility.

And all my point was to seaoat is that stuff like that is never the "puff" used in a puff piece.  I repeat, if it is then Reefer Madness was a puff piece to promote marijuana use.  lol

Cohn had intricate connections in City Hall, and he was instrumental in getting the tax abatements for Trump. He was a big deal in New York. A powerful anto d ruthless king maker. Trump had a powerful ally which helped him secure the tax incremental financing which allowed the banks to make their investments with trump using the downstroke as the annual tax payments back to the developer. Trump was playing with 100% of other people's money and as they said he was printing money.....yea I know all about Cohn and his secrets, but in the end, it was simple machine clout.....and he had it. Bob, you would have to be deeply challenged not to have studied the man in the early seventies when studying American History and Political Science....but I am honored that you think I am that shallow.....please do not project.....what is behind the curtain is the real deal.

All this from a virgin who has never put a real estate development together.....clueless is the only word that comes to mind.......bs walks.....it takes money to buy whiskey.........Cohn got it done for trump, and the American public admires the no nonsense take no prisoner approach to Trump's real estate success. Cohn was a critical part of the same. It was a puff piece. Five minutes into his real financials in the late nineties and disclosing some of that deposition would have been a documentary.....pure puff.

Oh for gosh sakes.  And I mean this with kindness and love,  not enmity.
You're just embarrassing yourself now by digging yourself in further.

First it was just "a lawyer".  Then when I inform you that it's more than just "a lawyer" and provide the person's name,  you google the name to try to learn what I'm talking about.
And this is what happened.  You stumbled onto a movie.  And you jumped to the conclusion that since this person was the subject of a Hollywood biopic,  then he must be a highly regarded figure.  lol

Seaoat,  this man destroyed the careers of half the people working in Hollywood.  And when they finally got around to getting their revenge on him,  it was to trash him.  He is not a sympathetic figure in the movie.
I've actually seen the movie two or three times (it was a made for tv flick).  Go watch the movie.  Don't keep embarrasing yourself.  This was a typical Hollywood review...

_____________________________

This film is an amazing study in self-loathing. As Cohn himself puts it in the movie, he was "a Jew who persecuted Jews; a gay who persecuted gays." Always trying to prove something to himself or his parents, he recklessly smashed lives and helped create the paranoia of the McCarthy era.

In the midst of the tragedy there are some very funny moments such as when Cohn eats off the plates of everyone he is dining with including Cardinal Spellman of New York. He was indulged and self-indulgent.

There is a Shakespearian quality to some of the scenes in which Cohn speaks to himself or to the ghosts of people he hurt. This is a disturbing look at human ego as well as a bitterly funny movie.

With the title of his documentary (or "special" or whatever they call these things),  Matthews set the stage for the message he wanted to deliver.
And the message was this country has now seen Citizen Kane,  Citizen Cohn and now their compatriot,  Citizen Trump.
It really was just that obvious.

Bob,

I just finished working with two partners on an extended stay hotel with 100 rooms where we were applying for 1.2 million dollars of tax increment financing which means the partnership would not have to put one red cent in the building of the hotel. My partners put it on hold after we had a twenty five thousand dollar marketing study which showed only 40% occupancy at this time. We own the land, and are not about to risk our capital at this time, but if somebody beats us to the first hotel, we will not get the tax increment financing....you need to know what you are doing in this arena......and if you pull the curtain back, you will find, I do. Trump had an expert on getting the government tax abatments which you are entirely clueless . I wrote a paper on McCarthy committee in 1973, and only somebody who spent their time on PB could be so ill informed to think anybody with a doctorate degree would not know who Cohn was.......are you drinking tonight, or are you like a bad poker player......judging other players by pure ignorance and a disconnect to what is going on at the table.

You are drinking. However, Trump's favorite movie of Citizen Kane is interesting. I have discovered Rosebud. There are about three hundred and fifty of us who have discovered the same........after I die I will let my wife give you that answer. If you are drinking, this will be quite confusing.
