I don't think it's because every black person has to think the same way -- But Carson is a wealthy, prominent neuro surgeon. To most American blacks, that's as common as seeing an alien on roller skates. His message to blacks, of course is, if you just work hard at it you to can be as successful as I. But for a black growing up in a one-parent household, in poverty, in a ghetto, what are the odds of success?

Who will help them with the homework? Provide them a good learning environment, encouragement, a full belly? Reality.

That sounds like a parenting problem to me. As for viewing carson as an uncle tom... that's a huge part of the cultural problem. The prevailing think is to outcast and deride those that work hard in school to better themselves... and glorify music and celebrity that is misogynistic, racist and thuggish gangsta. The role models have become gang leaders... the results therefore are not surprising.

On the otherhand... you (dems) are putting forward candidates that are old white political insiders...

if you think that will motivate the minorities... I think you are sadly mistaken. Good luck comrade.

Carson's mother, Sonya Copeland, was only thirteen years old when she married a much older Baptist minister from Tennessee named Robert Solomon Carson. After the couple moved to Detroit, Michigan, they had two boys, Curtis, born in 1949, and Benjamin Solomon, born on September 18, 1951. When young Ben was only eight years old, his parents divorced, and Sonya Carson was left to raise her two sons alone. Sonya moved the boys to Boston, Massachusetts, to be near family, but less than a year later the Carsons returned to Detroit. Sonya took on two, sometimes three, cleaning jobs at a time to support her children. In his writings, Carson has commented that even during the hardest times, his mother was the family's rock.

He was never a good student, but when Carson returned to his Michigan elementary school he realized that he was far behind the other fifth graders. In fact, in an Oracle interview with Andrew Pina, Carson recalled being laughed at by his classmates who, one day at recess, decided he was not only the dumbest kid in the fifth grade, but maybe the dumbest kid in the whole world. Life at Higgens Elementary was also not easy because it was a predominantly white school, and Carson, one of the few African American students, was taunted by his schoolmates and ignored by teachers.

"One of the things that really has inspired me and pushed me on is learning about the human brain and recognizing the incredible potential that lies there—but also recognizing how few people use it."

Sonya Carson decided to take matters into her own hands by switching off the television. Ben and Curtis were allowed to watch only two programs a week, and their mother made them read two books each week from the Detroit Public Library. The boys were also required to write book reports, which Sonya would underline and mark up. Only later did Ben Carson realize his mother, who had left school after the third grade, was barely able to read. "She pulled a fast one on us," Carson told David Gergen of PBS, "but after a while, something happened. I began to actually enjoy reading the books.... I could go anywhere in the world, be anybody, do anything. You know my imagination began to run wild." Within a year-and-a-half Carson went from the bottom of his class to the top of his class.

I have no idea whatever who Terrell Owens is, or what he does. Rodman is viewed as a total nutcase by most whites and blacks. His latest sojourns to North Korea didn't help his image!

A lot of people didn't know who Bernie was, or several of the other candidates for that matter. Currently, the majority support Hillary.
I'm sure that the fact that the candidates on the left at least acknowledge the black lives matter movement and have provided some platform for it and other issues surrounding the black community certainly gives them an advantage. The gop candidates cannot get their votes because the assumption that they want something beyond being treated equally and addressing legitimate societal problems is insulting and demeaning.

No, unlike you and your racist/bigoted friends, we are not a nation "infested" with racism. We are a nation whose leader DEMANDS to further divide the races and make them all victims. How many of our black leaders implore blacks to look on people who do well in school as hero's those who learn to speak English instead of "Ebonics" and urban slang as smart and great examples? How many of those black leaders implore men and women to get married BEFORE having children learn to raise them to be good citizens?
