The sad truth is, unlike Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and the dozens of other major military industrialists, our vets really have no lobbying power.

Just like the rest of us common folk.

So guess whose wheels get the grease!

As for those in that wonderful Washington DC feeding trough called "congress," none of them apparently give two shits for our GIs after they've been used.

If our government was peopled by characters who actually gave a damn about our men and women in uniform, would they have wasted their lives, limbs, and zillions of our bucks on misbegotten, wasteful, losing efforts in Vietnam, Panama, Greneda, Somalia, Beirut, Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan, and now in almost every poor country in Africa?

Of course our Presidents and congresses don't give a shit for all the uniformed victims of their insane, misdirected political power exercises. What kind of rational leaders would have engaged our "volunteer" military troops in wars we have had absolutely zero intention of ever winning?

Our government used to work hard at winning foreign wars.

No longer. Now the game is to keep those expenses going as long as possible, and who gives a shit for those demented kids who join up believing they will actually be risking their lives and limbs to defend America's freedom?

The answer, unfortunately is: nobody in Washington DC.

Having served during the Korean "Peace Action," and having lived in this country longer than most, I'll be frank: I love Americans -- in service or out. But I absolutely loath our fucked-up, dysfunctional and wholly corporate-owned government -- and I'd be happy if every one of our elected representatives and senators had terminal chest pains the rest of the summer.

As a nation, we are bipolar in regards to veteran's healthcare.

We are unanimous in agreement that vets hurt in the line of duty should receive free treatment for those injuries, but we don't want to pay for universal healthcare for all vets.

So, we have a system that must adjudicate whether or not each individual vet qualifies for treatment.

This causes delays.

Universal healthcare for everyone, be they vets or not, makes this problem go away.

I agree, good point!

Vets have tremendous power..they should just quit or not join in the first place...If you think it's a trial of manhood or a way to get college paid for then you are deluded, stupid and need a wake up call...Memorial day should be that.

Sal eff u and your politicization of Memorial Day in regard to Obamacare. Vets deserve the Congressional plan if not more. I doubt you ever served or lost friends. I have lost too many.

Here is a ditty for you and your ilk. By the way, we never did it for you. We served and did it for the person on the left and right of us.

God and the Soldier
God and the soldier
All men adore
In time of trouble,
And no more;
For when war is over
And all things righted,
God is neglected -
The old soldier slighted

You're not very bright, are you?

Show me where I said anything about Obamacare?

Must be tough being a soldier when you can't even correctly identify the enemy.

Universal healthcare for everyone, be they vets or not, makes this problem go away.  (It's inferred. I am not as stupid as you look.) I have never had an issue getting positive ID on the enemy, on a convoy or at 15k feet from a video feed.

10 And the crowds asked him, “What then shall we do?” 11 And he answered them, “Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.” 12 Tax collectors also came to be baptized and said to him, “Teacher, what shall we do?” 13 And he said to them, “Collect no more than you are authorized to do.” 14 Soldiers also asked him, “And we, what shall we do?” And he said to them, “Do not extort money from anyone by threats or by false accusation, and be content with your wages.”

So John thus gave soldiers advice on how to behave.... It would apply equally well to cops...

UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE, the ultimate goal of ObamaCare, is what CAUSED this problem and has for many, many decades. NO accountability, NO inventive, NO responsibility and plenty of MONEY to spread around.

VA sets the standard for the efficiency of anything run by the government. Post Office, Amtrak, what more do you need?

You, along with your Socialist/Communist buds like Bernie Sanders and Wordslinger all pitch the same FAILED SYSTEM.

Please explain, if you or any of the other Progressives here, why you want a proven failed system for our country?

The Post Office and the VA health care system works pretty damn good, and both certainly can be improved, but that starts with the proposition that their function is useful and that government can work efficiently. I believe that few private companies could accomplish what the Post office does and save money. They would cherry pick and take the profitable routes and leave rural America in the dumpster. We live in a great country. We actually have pretty good Government employees doing their best, but often we need to constantly reevaluate. On Veterans Day we can only hope that improvements will be a constant.

If the post office didn't have to front load all retirement benefits it would post a profit.

The problem with the VA is access, not quality of care, dumbass.

http://www.va.gov/healthbenefits/resources/priority_groups.asp

Priority Groups Table
The number of Veterans who can be enrolled in the health care program is determined by the amount of money Congress gives VA each year. Since funds are limited, VA set up Priority Groups to make sure that certain groups of Veterans are able to be enrolled before others.
Once you apply for enrollment, your eligibility will be verified. Based on your specific eligibility status, you will be assigned a Priority Group. The Priority Groups range from 1-8 with 1 being the highest priority for enrollment. Some Veterans may have to agree to pay copay to be placed in certain Priority Groups.
You may be eligible for more than one Enrollment Priority Group. In that case, VA will always place you in the highest Priority Group that you are eligible for. Under the Medical Benefits Package, the same services are generally available to all enrolled Veterans.VA determines your eligibility for VA’s comprehensive medical benefits package through our patient enrollment system, which is based on Priority Groups from 1 through 8.

Open the link above to explain the priority groups, then explain to me why we should go past priority group 6. Cut these two groups and you may see shorter wait times.

Listen sweetheart, you only score when the crowd thinks you scored. Digging up your Nazi slop from your immense Nazi regalia file isn't working anymore. Everyone knows I'm a socialist.

And you're a real Nazi.

I consider you one of my Socialist/Communist good friends but not your sweetheart.

Adolph Hitler's personal train has been YOUR signature for many years, not mine. You finally came out of the closet as a Socialist, you're inching your way toward admitting you're a Communist. Why would that bother you?

How are my Conservative beliefs in any way related to Nazism?

Mr. Markle you are getting more shrill as you realize that government is working pretty damn good under the President, our economy is slowly moving forward, we have cut our deficit in half, we are withdrawing from the wars, people are actually coming together to make improvements in the VA, and you think what you post here makes any difference.....it would if you were an honest broker of concepts and attempted to look at what is best for America. Instead you seem to be more out of touch in your 69 years, and frankly isolated in your beliefs. The demographics will never go back to your Mayberry, but America will grow stronger with our new fabric. Sorry to tell you this....they can pay you until you are a rich man to post nonsense across the state newspapers and blogs, but in the end your audience is shrinking and the sad part, your ship has sailed. Immigration reform, Minimum wage, and Medicare for all are as certain as the sun rising.......and you can huff and puff......but the people of this country are going to be burying their problem babyboomers over the next 20 years, and sadly your ideas will be buried with them.

That's right. The government should breach their contract with the veterans about health care benefits because vets are paid to much already. I can just see it now...

Head nurse screaming, 'Welfare recipients to the head of the line and all veterans to the rear'.

In the words of Debra Wasserman Shultz...

...'belittling that members of the armed forces are systematically being targeted for hate crimes'.

If ya' all want to take away vets care then the golden healthcare packages handed out to public civilian employees need to go first.

The babyboomers got theirs........they cut their own taxes and let chit go to hell in a handbasket as they bought big houses, fancy cars, and spent this country into big time debt as we fought two wars and never paid for the same.......so if a generation will ever need to exit.....it is the selfish babyboomers. The younger people got the short end of the stick, but good things are coming, and our country continues to grow strong as our balance of trade is going to be the best in the next five years than the last thirty.......we have become the new Saudi energy producer, and the best part Markle and you will be joining me in the not too near future..........and that twenty something kid is going to get his turn........our country is strong.....it is just one big hissy fit you and Markle are having realizing your relevancy and importance in this world is fading to the status of old and irrelevant.....so the reaction you both have is normal psychology.....attack reality, and pretend that Mayberry ever existed.........fade to grey.

This has exactly what to do with the massive failure of healthcare within the Veterans Administration?

VA healthcare is EXACTLY what you, President Barack Hussein Obama and the other Progressives have been crying for VA healthcare for all for decades. Explain why you demand shared misery for all Americans?
