The gloom and doom democrat said :

It's dangerous. It's very dangerous. I believe, Mr. President, we are at one of the most dangerous points in our history right now. Every bit as dangerous as the break-up of the Union before the Civil War.

While the most salient demographic fact about America is that it is becoming more diverse, Republican districts actually became less diverse in 2012. According to figures compiled by The Cook Political Report’s David Wasserman, a leading expert on House demographics who provided me with most of the raw data I’ve used here, the average House Republican district became two percentage points more white in 2012.

The members of the suicide caucus live in a different America from the one that most political commentators describe when talking about how the country is transforming. The average suicide-caucus district is seventy-five per cent white, while the average House district is sixty-three per cent white. Latinos make up an average of nine per cent of suicide-district residents, while the over-all average is seventeen per cent. The districts also have slightly lower levels of education (twenty-five per cent of the population in suicide districts have college degrees, while that number is twenty-nine per cent for the average district).

The members themselves represent this lack of diversity. Seventy-six of the members who signed the Meadows letter are male. Seventy-nine of them are white.

As with Meadows, the other suicide-caucus members live in places where the national election results seem like an anomaly. Obama defeated Romney by four points nationally. But in the eighty suicide-caucus districts, Obama lost to Romney by an average of twenty-three points. The Republican members themselves did even better. In these eighty districts, the average margin of victory for the Republican candidate was thirty-four points.

In short, these eighty members represent an America where the population is getting whiter, where there are few major cities, where Obama lost the last election in a landslide, and where the Republican Party is becoming more dominant and more popular. Meanwhile, in national politics, each of these trends is actually reversed.

Through redistricting, Republicans have built themselves a perhaps unbreakable majority in the House. But it has come at a cost of both party discipline and national popularity. Nowadays, a Sunday-school teacher can defeat the will of the Speaker of the House.

They've been isolated.

Now we just need to snuff them out.

Yes Sal snuff em out so we can have the living standards of Mexico and South Africa. Why don't you just move to Mexico and enjoy it now ?

There is nothing dumber than a collectivist. Take away the laborers earnings and give it to a pile of lazy shit until all you have is a steaming pile....

Teo, in many ways I agree.  Really.

We've become so divisive for whatever reason that I've begun to think we should divide.

I'd be more than happy to see the outcome.

I have to wonder at times if it's worse to be "Detroit".

Or, would we like to remember our Country's Founders and what they fought for???

It wouldn't be pretty for the red states.

Red states receive, on average, far more from the federal government in expenditures than they pay in taxes.

The balance is the opposite in blue states.

Who are the forces driving increasing numbers of Americans into opposing camps, and for what reasons?

My thoughts are, they are likely multi-billionaires who hold so much power that they roam freely and unfettered above the American political system, without any restraint whatsoever. The rest of America is their amusement park. They are likely somehow connected to banking and high-finance, and collect tribute from both the 1% and the 99%.

Should our nation ever descend into chaos, they will simply get on their private jet and scurry-off to a safe place until the fireworks are over.

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/26/us/politics/obamas-approval-rating-matches-two-year-low-poll-shows.html?_r=0

President Obama’s standing with Americans has slumped significantly, as the public remains skeptical about his health care law and unsure about the economy, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll.

Forty-nine percent of the public disapproves of Mr. Obama’s job performance, and 43 percent approves, matching his worst measures in two years, the poll shows. Only 30 percent of Americans believe he cares “a lot” about their needs and problems, a figure that has fallen steadily from early in his first term.

Across the board — on foreign policy, including Syria and Iran; the economy; health care; and the federal budget deficit —more Americans disapprove than approve of the president’s performance.

Mr. Obama is being hurt by a public that has grown sour in the face of what people see as a stagnating economy: two-thirds of Americans say the country is on the wrong track, the highest number since early in 2012. And with Washington locked in yet another contentious debate over government spending, people are showing signs of exasperation about their elected leaders’ inability to reconcile their differences.

Nearly 9 in 10 Americans say they are frustrated about the prospect of the federal government shutting down. With the insurance marketplaces that are part of Mr. Obama’s health overhaul set to go into place next month, approval of the signature domestic initiative of his administration stands at only 39 percent, and it is viewed favorably by just over one in three independents.

The supposedly enlightened progressive liberals don't want to discuss my proposed mandates for the good of all.

All of this is just symptomatic of a nation in decline.  And it will get worse over time,  not better.
The evidence of the decline is present in every American institution and in every aspect of American society.  And it's present in the expressions on this and every other message forum.  Everything is slowly going to shit.

You don't have to quit working to bring everything to a screeching halt.

Just quit buying anything except the very basics like food and then only buy things like; flour, sugar, yeast, cheap cuts of meat, veggie oil, etc... and make your food the old fashion way. Then buy your clothes and other things used at places like garage sales. Eliminate anything like phone, cable TV, internet, etc... from your monthly bills.

If enough people do this you will see everything come to a halt real quick.

Problem is what's left after the breakdown. If it's the law of the jungle and the feds tell their minions they have a license to kill us worthless citizens and and and...who knows. I hope we annex to Alabama and form a new country....

I'm not seeing solutions here.  Buying only the "basics" will not do it. We need to starve the beast.

There has to be a point of recovery and looking at the stats, I'm thinking someone has the answer or has to.  Otherwise, we are toast.

Shed some light please.

This is no longer the Country my ancestors fought for nor the Country I grew up in.

We need help.

There's comes a point and time when you old fogeys have to accept this is not the country you grew up in and thank God for that. Get over your old fashioned crap and move over for the new generations that embrace diversity and different ways of thinking. It's called progress!

We have a consumption based economy.  If you stop consuming,  that's not going to make the government do anything to bring us out of decline.  All that will do is collapse the economy and put everybody out of work.

There is no "solution" to what's happening. There has never been a "solution" for any great empire which has entered it's period of decline.
It had a good run.  These things don't last forever.

Diversity is not necessarily progress. Some cultures are not as productive and a drain on those that are whether you want to yell discrimination or not.
Look at Israel they are one of the most non-diverse people there are, likewise the Japanese and the Chinese. They are not watering down their cultures to their own harm just to prove some social engineer right or wrong.

Dreams. I know that you and I come from opposite ends of the universe and do not wish to tango, but hope you'll realize that the old fogeys you so despise are the same who have given you the choice to "progress", to follow, or in essence to have a choice.

Buying only the very basics will starve the beast if it goes on for several months.

How long do you think it will be before the local, state, and federal, governments will start howling about significantly decreased tax revenues from lack of consumer spending?

Boycotts always make the government want to talk and listen. Additionally, most of those government reps own or have significant stocks in companies that would be boycotted.

Why do you think they implemented the tax that's not a tax mandate?

Shall we review the tax that's not a tax mandates I proposed?

We have that already. More folks than ever are giving up their American Citizenship annually than ever before. To many taxes to many more regulations. When they're gong, where do you Progressives get your free handouts?

Yes, and we see how well that has worked out.

Why do you think the collapse of our country is a good thing.

You forgot a minor detail.

The red states you abhor are far more self reliant and have the fields and pastures for food. A barter system would come to life quickly.

Meanwhile, the folks in your liberal strong holds, big cities are going to have a tough time plowing those asphalt streets and roof tops. As for hunting....

Not as smart as you thought you were....
