Consider: Try to picture several hundred thousand demonstrators trying to assemble and protest against the government in a non-violent manner, on any square or city park in America. Your just having a dream. Before 10% of those folks get together the police will declare the protest an illegal assembly, out come the "crowd control" ninjas, tear gas, rubber bullets, armored cars, etc. etc. etc. And everyone being photographed by "law enforcemnt cameas -- including those in drones. And the cops, backed up by "emergency forces" including ATF, and maybe even the National Guard will have days to prepare, because assembling a crowd requires communication of one sort or another -- and all our communication is being monitored, for the purposes of "national security."

In the past year, all branches of the federal government have combined to diminish personal freedoms, in obvious and in subtle ways. In the case of privacy, we now know that the federal government has the ability to read all of our texts and emails and listen to all of our telephone calls – mobile and landline – and can do so without complying with the Constitution’s requirements for a search warrant. We now know that President Obama authorized this, federal judges signed off on this, and select members of Congress knew of this, but all were sworn to secrecy, and so none could discuss it. And we only learned of this because a young former spy risked his life, liberty and property to reveal it.




The litany of the loss of freedom is sad and unconstitutional and irreversible. The government does whatever it can to retain its power, and it continues so long as it can get away with it. It can listen to your phone calls, read your emails, seize your DNA and challenge your silence, all in violation of the Constitution. Bitterly and ironically, the government Jefferson wrought is proving the accuracy of Jefferson’s prediction that in the long march of history, government grows and liberty shrinks. Somewhere Jefferson is weeping.

A stupid comparison. Yes, we have troubling trends of growth in the Criminal Justice system of over 500% in the last 30 years, troubling narrowing of our 4th amendment rights under Supreme Court cases in the last 30 years, but until people are restricted or denied the right to vote......we control the police state.......It will take us supporting candidates which support stopping the War on drugs.......lowering our jail populations.....and celebrating our diversity and rich tradition of protest both in the written word and demonstrations.........this is not Berlin 1933.

If you think the protesters in Egypt are safe.......you really are naive........did you notice the significant drop in protesters once the military was in charge.......I can see the two of you with a protest sign in Egypt four weeks from now when the Coup has been perfected...........I imagine the two of you go to the emergency room for a hangnail.........man up......quit being such wimps......get involved and in fact there is a huge difference in candidates, and we do control this battle with wealth who most certainly would like your imaginary police state.....we are a long way from 1933 Berlin and using examples of airline security to declare a police state is illogical.....do not fly if you do not like the security procedures, but when it is time to elect people there are clear choices which are good for America, and there are clear choices of Candidates who represent the Oligarchy.........but to say poor me....I am in a police state......is for wimps who are impotent......Americans vote....Americans change things at the ballot box.......but two more political wimps who are afraid to express their political views migrating to Egypt........priceless

You are one of the densest posters on here speaking of naive . IF Word and I were to protest like they do in Egypt here in the US we would be murdered in a heartbeat and there would be no repercussions on the police that pulled the trigger. People here have not thrown rocks and punches yet but when they do it will be a bloodbath Mr. Chamberlain. Officer Safety trumps all.

You have a misplaced trust in a system that was only for show decades ago. You are just a bleating sheep that runs around trying to get all the other sheep to follow you in some gross display of government worship.

I am a wolf......I eat sheep for lunch........and I do not hide behind a sock......if you are a real man......and you believe in the principles which made you take to the street.....you fear not jail, fire hoses, dogs, or dynamite......you peacefully work for change........but cowards hide in shadows....plant dynamite in a church in Birmingham, and then criticize a centralized government which strives for the ideals of liberty and justice, while those cowards in the shadows find truth in racism and prejudice......again.....I eat sheep and cowards.........

Get real! It's money that decides who the candidates are and who will win. The truth is, the bad guys buy up candidates and their opposing candidates ... so no matter who wins, we lose. The system is totally corrupt. We change it, or it continues to eat us. Reality.

Roll up your shirt sleeves and make those changes. Have you gone door to door for a local candidate who you think can make a difference? Have you gone door to door for a national candidate? Have you ever had people slam doors in your face, or seen your name above the crease on the front page because you have taken positions which are not popular......I doubt it.....it is easier to be impotent......you do not win a war against evil by whining about how fair Egypt is and how unfair America is......sorry this is a great country and on the 4th of July I celebrate the courage of our forefathers and thank God that cowards did not live in this country who were willing to fight for change........and this nation has not been perfected.......it is a work in process......justice and liberty have to be earned......and you either are working to build this country.......or you are whining.......your decision, but there are good candidates in both parties who recognize the evils of the Oligarchy and how the average american has been losing ground....find them.....support them......and make a difference.

Every other question bows to that one. In America every two years we can throw the bums out.......maybe some of these closet revolutionaries need to support primary battles in every house race......that would be a start.....but that might be too risky......to get involved with other people working for goals which improve this country.....that would take courage.....not excuses.

They probably did not serve either......turning you into an impotent servant of their agenda.......no thank you sir......I have a different vision of America, it deals with fighting for single payer medicare for all, voter access to the polls, each and every American being judged by their character, not their religion or color of their skin, giving targeted job credits which support the creation of American industrial jobs, reductions in the criminal justice system, aggressive review of our trade treaties, the support of sustainable energy, the conservation of our natural assets, and improvements in our education system.........you roll over and have somebody rub your tummy like the good puppy dog you have become.........I will work to support candidates republican or democrat who are fighting the Oligarchy and supporting America's middle class......I have been a fifty year Republican, but they are now owned by the Oligarchy.....so I will support locally those who can begin the change.....I will not leave the Republican Party....I will change it......more slammed doors......more anger......but every bit of it is worth it.

You keep running from those boogeymen......again, brave men do not need night lights, and they get involved and make changes......I have......and I will continue to do the same with the time I have left.......You ever stood up in your community and suggested a reduction in the police department.....I doubt it.......you ever stand up in your community and question the growth of the criminal justice system.....I doubt it.........my vision deals with daily abuses which have solutions........courage has nothing to do with your gladiator fantasy.....courage is universal......as is cowardice........this country is a great country. It has flaws, and it has wealth which puts the same before the people of this country, but to roll up in a ball and talk revolution.....nonsense.....change happens every day when good men have courage...........go turn the night light on......or get involved.

Your tirades often mention the need for courage, which you claim comes from working within the current political situation to get your favorite candidate elected -- which, it's clear, has nothing whatever to do with courage and everything to do with pursuing wishful, but impossible dreams.

You seem to think that their are decent, noble, idealistic and giving people working at congress to create a better, more just, and beneficial America.

I wish it were so -- but it's becoming ever more apparent that this country -- which was created by the rich, for the rich and of the rich is still the world's greatest center for cruel, uncaring exploitation of the poor.  Dreamers like you no doubt think Bank of America, Exxon and Verizon, are bastions of noble idealism.  Just like NIKE, Walmart and the other major brands that exploit impoverished workers in third world countries.  

I happen to think that Elizabeth Warren is one of the most giving, intelligent and idealistic politicians in Washington.  And I did work for her election (although courage had nothing to do with it.)  Do I believe that in the long run her efforts will really change the way our fixed system runs?  Not a chance.

As long as campaigns have to spend zillions for TV advertising for a candidate to win, we will have crooked government.  And the one we've got right now murders innocent people without blinking an eye.

You think your favorite local candidate will stop the executive branch from murdering a ten-year-old kid with a drone?  Or expanding it's control over our communications and civil rights, in order to assure "national security."

Don't make me laugh.  

If you think the best you can do to make America better is what you're doing, I applaud your effort. I'm doing the same. Good luck with your candidate program. As for me, I want to destroy Amerika Inc and replace it with one that's really a government of the people, by the people, for the people.
