We've only seen the tip of this iceberg. This has the power to bring down this President. People already fear the IRS, to be using it as a weapon against innocent citizens. Now we're supposed to TRUST the IRS with our health care. Sounds like a plan and one you love.

How long before the government arranges for wedding receptions too?

Markle isn't that smart. What I wonder is why certain people here are having trouble understanding the concept of intent under the law. It sure seems that one major group defined under this tax status...that of Norm Coleman...got a free ride. The IRS, instead of rubber-stamping his application, needs to give it a second look. I can see a scenario in which this particular group, which financed something like 80% of GOP funding from this classification (tax exempt, non-disclosure) would not like to revisit that classification; hence, the bruhaha about "targeting" conservative groups. Capiche?

Curious, you start off your post with an insult for no reason whatsoever other than I must have caught you flat footed again with no response.

Then YOU go on to make empty statements for which you have no support, no links and you say I'M NOT THAT SMART...got it!

It was your reference to Socrates...you're not in the same class...just a stupid shill. It's not as if you haven't insulted me personally on a continual basis, so stuff it.

The IRS has apparently not followed the statute which governs this particular classification, choosing a loose interpretation which allows 49% of activities to fall squarely into the political realm. Now, these organizations don't want to pay taxes, but, more important, they don't want to disclose their donors. So, it's highly likely that this whole "scandal" is a cover for the deeper scandal...these groups do not qualify as 501(c)4 nonprofits. Rather than expose their donors, they cooked up this "scandal" claiming that the IRS specifically singled them out for extra scrutiny, when in fact, many of them don't and never did meet the criteria for this classification. Now it's time to pay the piper, and "IRS Targeted Conservative Groups" makes a much better headline, politically speaking, than "Tea Party Groups Operated Illegally". Pay attention to the fact that the head of the IRS, who immediately resigned, was a Bush appointee, and that resignation left Ms. Lerner holding the bag.

Why are you so dense? That was rhetorical.

Media matters and truthout and many others use that classification... it is a group of people pooling (peaceable assembly) their money to exercise their free speech on a modern scale. A soap box on the corner doesn't cut it any more. The unions and organizations have done this for a very long time.

btw... I've never seen markle personally attack anyone on here. I think he shows you examples of your ideologic naivete and it offends you. That really is no reflection on him... it's an example of your inability/unwillingness to be objective.

This is growing my the minute. This could easily be large enough to bring down the White House. Already those connected with those testifying go all the way to the White House. President Barack Hussein Obama is being very, very careful parsing his words when answering questions. In some cases he has resorted to the age old political tactic of, with a straight face, answering a different question than was asked.

actually Markle is one of the smartest most informed people on this forum.

and fltx it is you that is mis informed. Lerner and ingram directly oversaw the depts. and locations where this occurred. So if you think its higher ups that need to be held accountable then dont stop with the bush appointee, go all the way up to obama.

and it wasn't just tea party groups btw. they were targeting any application that had the words , tea party, PATRIOTS and they were also targeting any group that was teaching the CONSTITUTION.

Personally I think they created this crisis on purpose to stop the firestorm from Benghazi. because people will pay attention to shit the irs is doing because of our fear of them.

I also think that the worse scandal we have right now other than Benghazi is what the DOJ has done to our reporters. As much as I hate the msm, the gov using these tactics interferes with them coming out against the gov, its a strong arm tactic being used by the gov to scare reporters who say anything against this admin. and that is a bad sign for our country.

look at all this mess and if you have a single brain cell in your head you would clearly and easily see, this countries administration is a thuggery stalinesque bunch of crooks.

even the motto "Forward" is a stalin motto.

I agree with your concern about what the government has done to the free press. That is a major concern to me. It scares the dickens out of me, too. We're talking third world junta stuff here. I mean, what NEXT? And how could this have happened? And why will Eric Holder be policing himself and his staff on this issue? But those are questions for another thread - one that hasn't arisen yet on this forum

Since I am not savvy or knowledgeable enough to talk about the IRS mess, I'll leave that to FT. I'm learning a lot by reading your posts, FT. Thanks.

And PKR - Markle has attacked me personally in the past. He's called me a liar, immoral, and shameful. Consistently, over and over. If that's not name-calling, I don't know what is. The odd thing is that whenever I agree wholeheartedly with one of Markle's posts, and it does happen, he tends to ignore my agreement. I've always wondered about that.

odd how they put this shit right in front of peoples faces and it still gets denied. Its a testimony to the power of brainwashing really.

The strong arm tactics and the way this admin is running things speaks for its self.

If I have said you were a liar, it is because you demonstrably posted something which is not true. That is not calling someone a name, it is a factual description. If someone posted support for Dr. Kermit Gosnell and his murders of babies accidentally born alive as the result of a failed abortion, I would say that is immoral and shameful. Is that not true?

You forgot to mention the part about my agreeing with you from time to time. Very Happy

And don't even try to tie my thoughts on health care to Kermit Gosnell. There is no connection, and you know it. You are deliberately muddying the waters here.

You have often called me "shameful and immoral" because I want all of our citizens to have access to decent health care.

It may be your opinion that I am a liar, shameful and immoral, but your opinion is not fact. Therefore, your continuous efforts to marginalize me fall into the category of name-calling based on your opinion only.

not everybody is a good communicator. and being a good communicator does not mean you are more intelligent than others. or a better leader as we have found out the last few years.

Personally I think markle is very intelligent and he communicates very well.

as much as I respect both you and pb, it would be an injustice to not say my mind. but I think the protest here is against the content and not the delivery. Because if we were really protesting delivery's, there would be LOTS more protest. Wink

"...third world junta..." - That's exactly what happened here, PB. It was called the election of 2000...and it was all downhill from there.

How is it targeting when only 1/3 of these groups, which astroturfed out of thin air prior to the 2010 midterms, were teabaggers? No one ever heard of the "tea party" before that. And since their returns were filed at a later date, there was a lag before the IRS began sifting through them. According to what I've read, 70% of these groups did not meet the 501(c)4 criteria. There is more to this scandal, but it doesn't involve the White House. Those screaming the loudest about their unfair "partisan" treatment under the law are most likely the most egregious offenders. And it's all part of a witch hunt by the Republican Party, because they can't stand losing, even though their platform in 2012 was offensive to just about every voting group you could name.

And Markle insults everyone who doesn't agree with him...on a regular basis. It's part of his shtick, and, like a good dog, he's blindly loyal.

Of course you probably think this double standard is A-OK:

"IRS official Lerner speedily approved exemption for Obama brother’s ‘charity’
By Charles C. Johnson | May 14, 2013
Lois Lerner, the senior IRS official at the center of the decision to target tea party groups for burdensome tax scrutiny, signed paperwork granting tax-exempt status to the Barack H. Obama Foundation, a shady charity headed by the president’s half-brother that operated illegally for years.
According to the organization’s filings, Lerner approved the foundation’s tax status within a month of filing, an unprecedented timeline that stands in stark contrast to conservative organizations that have been waiting for more than three years, in some cases, for approval.
Lerner also appears to have broken with the norms of tax-exemption approval by granting retroactive tax-exempt status to Malik Obama’s organization.
The National Legal and Policy Center filed an official complaint with the IRS in May 2011 asking why the foundation was being allowed to solicit tax-deductible contributions when it had not even applied for an IRS determination. In a New York Post article dated May 8, 2011, an officer of the foundation admitted, “We haven’t been able to find someone with the expertise” to apply for tax-exempt status.
Nevertheless, a month later, the Barack H. Obama Foundation had flown through the grueling application process. Lerner granted the organization a 501(c) determination and even gave it a retroactive tax exemption dating back to December 2008.
The group’s available paperwork suggests an extremely hurried application and approval process. For example, the group’s 990 filings for 2008 and 2009 were submitted to the IRS on May 30, 2011, and its 2010 filing was submitted on May 23, 2011. Lerner signed the group’s approval on June 26, 2011.
It is illegal to operate for longer than 27 months without an IRS determination and solicit tax-deductible contributions.
If Malik was filing tax exempt 990s for 2008, he was operating illegally. So Ms. Lerner’s retroactive grant may have kept him from being prosecuted.
The ostensibly Arlington, Va.-based charity was not even registered in Virginia despite the foundation’s website including a donation button that claimed tax-exempt status."

Talk about a blind loyal dog, can you say "arf arf arf"?

From the looks of things over the past 12 years liberals have been living and dying by their double standards.

If this BS was happening during Bush's watch the liberal loons would be crying out for impeachment, a pound of flesh and God only knows what else.

Yep, double standards are alive and well with the progressive liberal mob.
