Hugo Chavez died at the age of 58.

Will Mitt Romney be running (with fake tan) for his seat?

Any word on whether or not Rodman will attend the funeral...?

In my lifetime, only the deaths of Roosevelt and the two Kennedys evoked the same tragic response of the mass of the people, as we are seeing right now in Venezuela. I'm not qualified to judge whether any of this heartfelt sadness was deserved; I'll leave that to others. But no matter who frames the eulogy, Chavez was loved by the poor people of Venezuela and that, no doubt, rankles all those folks who think rich people are somehow better people.

Reality.

How much wealth does one need to have to no longer be considered poor?

Chavez was no dummy:

Chavez’s 681% Returns Mean Socialism Buoys Goldman: Andes Credit

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-01-30/chavez-s-681-bond-returns-buoy-goldman-andes-credit-correct-.html

"Since taking office in 1999, Hugo Chavez has spread his socialist revolution in Venezuela by seizing more than 1,000 companies. For bondholders that stuck by him, he’s also delivered returns that are double the emerging- market average.

The 681 percent advance, equal to 14.7 percent annually, has enriched investors from OppenheimerFunds Inc. to Goldman Sachs Asset Management LP that counted on Chavez’s willingness to siphon the country’s oil wealth to pay its creditors in the face of start-stop growth and falling reserves. While his policies drove away enough investors to keep Venezuela’s borrowing costs over 12 percent on average during his tenure, or 4 percentage points higher than those of developing nations, he’s never missed a bond payment."

No, the people of that nation lived in fear of Chavez, especially political opponents. Good riddance. He was nothing better than a dictator like Castro who rigged the last election 100%. Let's hope we can get better relations with the number one exporter of oil to the United States.

Maria Conchita Alonso on Chavez Passing: ‘I’m Very Happy’

As the liberal media predictably gushed and fawned over Hugo Chavez on the occasion of his death Tuesday, someone that was raised in Venezuela was actually quite pleased by the announcement.

Appearing on NewsMaxTV’s Steve Malzberg Show Tuesday, Maria Conchita Alonso said, “I’m very happy”

“I am so happy,” the Cuban-born actress who moved to Venezuela when she was five said. “I know that they say, ‘Oh my God, that’s insulting. You can’t be happy [unintelligible] the death of someone. You don’t respect him.’ I’m like, ‘What? How many people did he kill? How did he destroy the country? Who did he respect? Who did he not abuse?’”

“Of course I’m happy,” she continued. “God can forgive him, but I am not God. I’m very far away from being a Saint. So, I won’t forgive him. I’m very happy.”

Minutes later, Malzberg asked his guest to comment about what Chavez admirer Sean Penn must be thinking.

“Sean Penn, oh my God,” Alonso replied. “Oh, I’m so sorry. You must be feeling so sad. Well, but such is life…I’m happy.”
