Boston Marathon bomb

No idea yet on injuries and deaths.....looks nasty.

Two explosions, at least 4 people injured in initial reports, still no idea of sources of explosions or extent of injuries.

Sad. I guess we'll have to hire the National Guard to line the course next year, all 26.2 miles of it. I've run and completed four marathons. It is a great test of endurance and at mile 20 each time, you always ask yourself..."why am I doing this?" LOL. My last marathon in 1998 qualified me for Boston in the Men's Open division (that means you have to run 3:15 or faster in a qualifying race elsewhere).

Starting to report some serious injuries.

One news report that I just heard was at least 2 dead.

Good to see the extra precautions being taken elsewhere in the wake of this.

Early reports are that it was an explosion in front of or within Marathon Sports store. Pretty hard to go through every shoebox before a race to determine if someone has tampered with a business. Another report is saying it was near a car........trying to catch a bb with a baseball mitt......easier said than done, but security on a 26 mile course......tough assignment.

There were two explosions near the finish line. And apparently there was just another one but the cops had found that bomb and cleared the area before it detonated.
All the tv networks have broken in to cover it.

DEVELOPING: Multiple casualties are reported after at least two explosions were heard near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, according to the Boston Herald.


Witnesses reportedly heard two booms that sounded like two claps of thunder near the finish line inside the Fairmount Copley Plaza Hotel.


The explosions occurred just before 3 p.m. Video of the scene showed a number of emergency crews in the area tending to victims and blood on the ground near the finish line.


"I saw two explosions. The first one was beyond the finish line. I heard a loud bang and I saw smoke rising," Boston Herald reporter Chris Cassidy, who was running in the marathon, told the newspaper. "I kept running and I heard behind me a loud bang. It looked like it was in a trash can or something...There are people who have been hit with debris, people with bloody foreheads.”


A photographer with Fox affiliate WFXT reported seeing a number of victims with lost limbs.


Competitors and race organizers were crying as they fled the chaos. Bloody spectators were being carried to the medical tent that had been set up to care for fatigued runners.

CBS News is now reporting there was a 3rd "incident" at the JFK Museum.

And, Boston officials say they are treating it as related, although the director of the museum says it was a fire in the mechanical room and NOT related.

I'm sure there must be mass confusion at this point, but how could they not know this?

The director of the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum says that a 3 p.m. fire inside the building's mechanical room was not caused by a device and is apparently not related to the explosions at the Boston Marathon finish line.

Tom Putnam, the director of the JFK Library, said that the incident was confined to a mechanical room near the archive section of the library.
