In several reports about the asteroid, they told the tv audience it was "50 yards wide".
But after telling the audience that, they felt compelled to convey what 50 yards means. And they did that by putting up a graphic. It showed a circle. And then superimposed over that circle was two 18-wheelers end to end.
I kept thinking to myself "does CNN actually think they need to further explain what 50 yards is?"
And then I started thinking about those people interviewed in Jay Leno's "Jaywalking" segments. And I realized that yes CNN has it's finger on the pulse of it's audience and figured it probably did need to add pictures to the words to get across what 50 yards means. Sorta like the grade school teacher used to do.
