And we'll give them a place to stay, food stamps, and a big fat welfare check. You may have heard that we're broke. Don't worry about it, we're going broker but we need your help to do it.
So run, dig, or swim your way to the American dream.

Luke 6:20-21 Then he looked up at his disciples and said: 'Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God".

Mark 10:21-22 Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said, "You lack one thing; go, sell what you own, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me." When he heard this, he was shocked and went away grieving, for he had many possessions.

Luke 14:12-14 He said also to the one who had invited him, "When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, in case they may invite you in return, and you would be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."

Luke 16:19-25 "There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. And at his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who longed to satisfy his hunger with what fell from the rich man's table; even the dogs would come and lick his sores. The poor man died and was carried away by the angels to be with Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried.
In Hades, where he was being tormented, he looked up and saw Abraham far away with Lazarus by his side. He called out, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in agony in these flames.' But Abraham said, 'Child, remember that during your lifetime you received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner evil things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in agony.

If he was here today Sean Hannity and Brother Carl and Rush Limbaugh and Pacedog and ghandi and markle wouldn't give him the time of day. They'd say he was nothing but a muslim commie like Obama.

I am not a Christian but have read the New Testament. Jesus was a socialist. Its very obvious in much of the New Testament. It is my understanding that to be a Christian one must believe and adhere to the teaching of Jesus. A person who rails against helping those who are less fortunate simply would not be admitted into the Kingdom of Heaven. How could hey?

The basis tenet of communism is "To each according to his need and from each according to his ability"

Not being a biblical scholar I wonder how Paul is a commie?

Y'all need to study more...there is no Commie or socialism in the Bible..

Warning Against Idleness
6In
the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers, to keep
away from every brother who is idle and does not live according to the
teachinga you received from us.
7For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you,
8nor
did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. On the contrary, we
worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a
burden to any of you.
9We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to make ourselves a model for you to follow.
10For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “If a man will not work, he shall not eat.

11We hear that some among you are idle. They are not busy; they are busybodies.
12Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the bread they eat.
13And as for you, brothers, never tire of doing what is right.

___________________________________________________________________________

Also from the beginning a man was expected to personally care for his family including his parents..nowhere does it say the state should care for the people. If a man's brother died and left a wife then
that man was to marry the brother's wife and care for her . Charity should NOT be confused as socialism...or worse.

For if the eagerness is there, it is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have; not that others should have relief while you are burdened, but that as a matter of equality your surplus at the present time should supply their needs, so that their surplus may also supply your needs, that there may be equality. As it is written: “Whoever had much did not have more, and whoever had little did not have less.”

That is the old concept of gleaning...NOT communism. The Farmers were expected to leave a part of their crop (surplus) for the poor to harvest and live off...THAT IS CHARITY.

1And now, brothers, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches.
2Out of the most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity.
3For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own,
4they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the saints.

2 Cor was the church helping the Saints spread the good tidings.

Now farmers get sizeable subsidies which put the average grain farmer into the top 1% of income in America, while we subsidize companies to burn 40% of the corn crop as alcohol....oh, and we subsidize that so Americans with big gas guzzling cars can go to the corner store and buy a twinkie full of corn sweetners which will shorten most Americans lives....but the best part is the tax policies which allow venture capitalists to cannabilize Hostess, throw American workers to the street, and ship our jobs to Mexico where a Mexican bread company will buy the parts remaining of Hostess.......and you think communism is the problem.........gleaning.....LOL......read Karl Marx.

I can't help but observe that Spielberg, while he may indeed have his own version of who Lincoln was and what he stood for, he doesn't seem to be arguing with himself about what that version is.
But since Paul the Apostle wrote both the Book of Paul and Corinthians, I'm not so sure the same can be said of him.

Nothing wrong with FREE enterprise or even capitalism when it doesn't have government force behind it...NO I DON'T THINK COMMUNISM IS THE PROBLEM...HOW ABOUT CORPORATE FASCISM ?...sheesh just jump to whatever conclusion serves you oatman.

My bad. I got Paul mixed up with the Luke quotes. I'll now refrain from any more attempts at being a Biblical scholar at this point. lol

Well only after adding this. It appears to me that the Bible taken all together can be used both as a communist manifesto and a tea party position paper all rolled into one. lol

I have friends who are grain farmers and raise pigs....they own 500 acres of prime corn land......and now folks can look up who is getting subsidies from the government.....these folks who are dear friends are sitting on a paid for five million dollar farm, and they are getting 200 bushels an acre corn production which is grossing them $1,400 an acre before fertilizer, seed, and depreciation of their equipment, or a net of about 700 bucks an acre or $350,000 a year income, and when I look up their subsidy which you and I are paying them to farm.......40k a year.........they have pled poor farmer for the last 30 years and they have almost received a million dollars of subsidy and we want to get all bent out of shape with a family who has the father laid off and is getting lousy food stamps as the problem in America......That giving food to our poor, but ignoring just what you said.....corporate welfare.....is somehow our fixation......nope....if Jesus was amongst us now he would question subsidy for multi millionaires, and how little we do for our poor......the tax policy is our policy.....it is time to look at all subsidy and justify the same.

I agree with Teo about charity. Jesus wasn't preaching to the government. I also agree with Seaoat about the subsidies.

Several months back, there were folk posting about those poor farmers in AL who had crops (tomatoes, other veggies) rotting in the fields because there weren't sufficient enough laborers to harvest them.

I suggested that the local poor folk or whomever should be allowed access for gleaning rather than allowing the largess to rot and be plowed under.

Not a peep out of the usual suspects who constantly whine about our social network.

The gleaning should be an annual event. My Grandfathers and my Uncles allowed it every year as late as the 70's.

I've been gleaning cigarette butts for years.
