San Francisco police seek permission for its robots to use deadly force

https://news.yahoo.com/san-francisco-police-seek-permission-for-its-robots-to-use-deadly-force-183514906.html

The San Francisco Police Department is currently petitioning the city's Board of Supervisors for permission to deploy robots to kill suspects that law enforcement deems a sufficient threat that the "risk of loss of life to members of the public or officers is imminent and outweighs any other force option available to SFPD." The draft policy, which was written by the SFPD itself, also seeks to exclude "hundreds of assault rifles from its inventory of military-style weapons and for not include personnel costs in the price of its weapons," according to a report from Mission Local.

The police force currently maintains a dozen fully-functional remote-controlled robots, which are typically used for area inspections and bomb disposal. However, as the Dallas PD showed in 2016, they make excellent bomb delivery platforms as well. Bomb disposal units are often equipped with blank shotgun shells used to forcibly disrupt an explosive device's internal workings, though there is nothing stopping police from using live rounds if they needed, as Oakland police recently acknowledged to that city's civilian oversight board.

Here's how fucking dumb Elon's "expose" of Twitter is.  First, he gets a conservative propagandist to "reveal" it, so you know she's only going to tell you about the supposed infringements against her own side.  Nobody's trusting that shit out of that source. It's been cherry-picked to reinforce the right-wing narrative, and the only people who are going to trust that are right-wingers... who also believe things like a bearded man in a nightgown controls the universe, and the Beatles were sacrificing babies to his opponent. (Yeah, that's actually a thing, they're THAT crazy - https://news.yahoo.com/qanon-followers-arguing-beatles-were-225501555.html?fr=sycsrp_catchall )

Second, it's a big nothingburger to begin with. Corporations are always going to try to control stuff that would cost them advertising dollars or propaganda that would brand them as a peddler of misinformation... and that's the very reason Twitter's been losing advertisers by the boatloads every day since Elon decided to turn it into 4chan. Twitter's never been a "free speech" site, it's always been a business. Ya may like what they do -- and you can take that up with capitalism -- but these things aren't "scandals."

Meanwhile, it's all rendered moot, anyway, since the very things Elon's bitching about are things that he's doing.  The guy doesn't understand what he reads!

They talk about "shadowbanning" or suppressing certain accounts.  Well, that's Elon's stated policy!  What the fuck do you think "shadowbanning" is if it's not THIS?

He's basically saying "you have freedom to speak, but not freedom to be heard."  He's also instituting things that say that the people who pay him the most money will get the biggest megaphones, and have the biggest reach.  That's not free speech, that's "whoever has the most money gets heard."  All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.  And he'll decide what's positive or negative.

And so far he's mostly helping the bigots.  https://www.cnn.com/2022/12/02/tech/twitter-hate-speech/index.html  All because Republicans thought he was giving them "free speech" and, to them, free speech always means "I'm gonna say some racist shit!"

Conservatives are their own worst enemy, really. They always reveal themselves by indulging in their worst instincts.

Then there's THIS bullshit:

"Conventional news" being the kind that's actually vetted and fact-checked.  Instead, Elon's going to push propaganda and bullshit, because that's what's popular with the people who "like" him.  He doesn't care who the lies hurt, he's just a lonely, ugly wretch who wants to be "popular" and will do whatever it takes as long as somebody thinks he's "funny" or some kind of hero.  Even it's a hero to propagandists. He wants to be the next Rupert Murdoch, because he's figured out -- as everyone without a conscience eventually does -- that right-wingers are fucking dumb sheep and you can make a whole lot of money leading them around and feeding the hate-swill they crave. He fucked up his Tesla business by allying himself with the people who don't by electric cars (great business sense there, skippy!) and so now he's desperate to find another grift.

Want more proof of that?

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/elon-musk-said-hes-open-to-buying-publishing-platform-substack-after-a-twitter-user-said-it-would-give-him-control-of-the-narrative-layer-of-the-internet/ar-AA155v4X#:~:text=Elon%20Musk%20said%20he%27s%20%22open%20to%20the%20idea%22,was%20told%20the%20site%20was%20not%20for%20sale.

Elon Musk said he's "open to the idea" of buying publishing platform Substack, on Friday morning.

He agreed with a user saying that Substack would give him "control" over the "narrative layer" of the internet.

Musk has also speculated about possibly buying Wikipedia this week, but was told the site was not for sale.

He wants to try to control what people think, by deciding what information they're allowed to access, and what they aren't. And since the real news is just facts without a real agenda, propagandists are the only ones who are going to pay him to spread their crap for 'em. And that's lucrative, especially since right-wingers are proven not to be able to create their own platforms and have them be a success. Every time they do it basically turns into a neo-Nazi site. Remember Gab? That's basically a Stormfront chatroom now. Like I said, conservatives will always reveal themselves. The only way they succeed is if someone protects them from showing too much of what they actually are.

Meanwhile, Elon's 4chan-version-of-Twitter is only going to get worse until it finally goes the way of MySpace, so I hope it's worth it to him to have idiot chuckleheads think he's funny for making lame dad jokes.

Elite Chicago prep school dean brags about kids handling sex toys in class

https://nypost.com/2022/12/09/chicago-prep-school-kids-given-dildos-and-butt-plugs-dean-says/amp/

The dean of students at an elite, $42,000-a-year Chicago prep school has been filmed bragging about kids playing with “dildos and butt plugs” in class while getting tips on having “queer sex.”

Joseph Bruno was secretly filmed by Project Veritas talking about the Pride Week event at Francis W. Parker School that included a visit by drag queen Alexis Bevels.

An LGBTQ+ Health Center came in and “they were passing around butt plugs and dildos to my students — talking about queer sex, using lube versus using spit,” Bruno said.

“In a classroom, while I’m sitting there,” Bruno said — noting it was for kids as young as 14.

“They’re just, like, passing around dildos and butt plugs … The kids are just playing with ‘em,” he said of the high schoolers.

“They’re like, ‘How does this butt plug work? How do we do — like, how does this work?’” he said, with the drag queen there to “pass out cookies and brownies and do photos.”

In the clip secretly filmed in a coffee shop, Bruno confirmed that he had not told trustees about the sex-toy lesson, insisting he felt no need to because they would find it “wonderful.”

“That’s a real cool part of my job — I don’t have to worry about stuff like that,” he was recorded as saying, bragging about how he had “so much freedom” and “so much money to do stuff” at the school.

Bruno refused to answer questions when Project Veritas chief James O’Keefe confronted him outside the school door — with the guerrilla journalist loudly calling out in front of kids: “Sir! Anal butt plugs and toys?”

However, just as Bruno predicted, the school stood by him — blaming the “far-right activist group” for having twisted an example of its “inclusive, LGBTQ+ affirming, and comprehensive approach to sex education.”

Principal Dan Frank told parents that “we are heartbroken that one of our colleague’s words have been severely misrepresented for a malicious purpose.”

Project Veritas “edited this video with malicious intent,” Frank complained — adding: “We are sickened by this group’s deceptive tactics.”

“Parker administrators and … Trustees support Parker’s programming, the strength and inclusivity of our curriculum, and the dedicated and talented faculty and staff that teach it,” the school stated firmly.

School Superintendent Arrested On Felony Charge After Allegedly Covering Up Bathroom Rape By A Skirt-Wearing Boy

https://www.newspageindex.com/12/2022/15/676998

Two top officials of a Northern Virginia public school district were indicted Monday for their roles in the handling of a bathroom rape by a skirt-wearing boy, according to the Daily Wire.

Former Loudoun County Superintendent Scott Ziegler, who was fired last week, was indicted on three misdemeanor counts of false publication, conflict of interest-prohibited conduct, and penalizing an employee for a court appearance.

The court record shows that spokesman Wayde Byard was indicted on a felony charge of perjury.

A week ago, a special grand jury released a 91-page report that confirmed the findings of The Daily Wire’s October 2021 report.

They determined that Ziegler told a “bald-faced lie” when he dismissed concerns about a proposed transgender policy. Ziegler denied that there had ever been any bathroom sex assaults–despite knowing of the attack on a ninth-grade girl just a month earlier.

The grand jury said Ziegler’s administration also concealed from the public and even the school board that the same boy went on to sexually assault another girl in a classroom. The school board members learned about it from a report in The Daily Wire.

The grand jury findings painted a devastating picture and showed that “throughout this ordeal, LCPS administrators were looking out for their own interests instead of the best interests of LCPS.”

On Monday, Byard did not return a request for comment on his own indictment.

The school board fired Ziegler on Tuesday, a day after the grand jury report–but fired him “without cause,” apparently giving him a $350,000 golden parachute.
