Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Gives Mitch McConnell A Semantics Lesson After His McCarthyism Gripe

The freshman lawmaker has a few words about McConnell’s leadership skills.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) claims he was a victim of “McCarthyism” after critics dubbed him “Moscow Mitch” for blocking a bill to protect U.S. elections from Russian meddling.

McConnell wrote on Twitter on Monday:

Modern-day McCarthyism is poison for American democracy. It is shameful to imply that policy disagreements make the other side unpatriotic. The people who push such unhinged smears are doing Putin’s destabilizing work for him.


On Tuesday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) offered up a correction:


McCarthyism is the practice of baselessly accusing political opponents of being communists as unjust grounds for targeting & harassment.

Last week, McConnell blocked a bill passed by the House that would have authorized $775 million to help protect state election systems from Russian hacking and other threats. That action prompted critics to dub him “Moscow Mitch.”

Well, Mr. King of What-About-Ism, AT LEAST THERE WAS A MICROPHONE PRESENT.  

Contrast that rather inoffensive slip-up (which was NO guarantee of anything) with the many secretive meetings and phone calls between Trump and Putin, about which we have NO information - ZERO, ZIP, NADA -  and there's simply not even the slightest scintilla of comparability.  NONE.

It's truly amazing, how the Republicans come back with one single hot mike comment made (albeit) unintentionally in public by Obama as proof positive that he was trying to help them in some way...while at the same time trying to appear totally oblivious to the 120 or more contacts between Trump and his associates and Russians during the 2016 campaign.

In addition to that they choose to ignore Putins straightforward acknowledgement that he preferred to have Trump win the election.

This one hot mike comment by Obama, put up against all the evidence gathered by the Mueller Report and Newspaper reporters about Trump/Russian connections is just astonishing. How lame can you get? You know perfectly well, that if Obama had sided with Putin against the US Intelligence agencies the way Trump did in Helsinki he would have been dealt with quite dramatically and we'd still be watching video clip loops of the exchange during every commercial break known to man. What a disgusting retort.

It was direct quid pro quo. In exchange for latitude during the election cycle Obama would provide relief from the missile defense systems in Putin's region. They both lived up to the deal. See: recent history.
