I heard about McConnell's "entitlements" rant earlier today and could hardly believe how utterly brain-dead he must've been to bring this up right before the mid-terms.   He and his party have already alienated countless women and minorities, and now he wants to diss the elderly as well, while reminding everyone that the economists' dire predictions about the tax cuts' effect on the deficit may be coming true sooner rather than later?

And, again, right before an election?   Political insanity.

Except they know their demographics. The dixiecrats have hijacked the Republican Party which historically was the enemy of dixiecrat evil, but now is all in to take rights away from citizens and return to Jim Crow. No, the base believes that these federal programs benefit people of color, and if they could be eliminated, then the return path to jim crow becomes easier. The very senior who you speak of being angry, is not part of the Trump base......they take pride in the thought of black people barefoot and inferior.....it is really that simple....you can still win in America by peddling racism........

Now the conservatives are starting to hurt people who intersect with their Venn diagram -- retirees and the elderly. They're like any abuser -- once they get comfortable because they've gotten away with one form of abuse, they'll start playing with another.

It's safe for them to slam minorities because they have so few minority voters anyway. It's safe for them to pick on immigrants because hating immigrants brings more people to their party than it'd chase away, given conservative nature. It's safe to treat women badly because the conservative women tend to be a prideless lot who've been trained not to "usurp authority over a man" anyway (as my conservative co-worker always puts it when she's undermining herself and letting her brother take everything she's got), and they'll put up with anything. Really, it's safe for conservatives to mistreat anyone but old white Christian men.

And, oops, McConnell just started slapping the elderly.

Great strategy there, Mike! Maybe he's actually wanting Democrats to take over the house so they'll have someone to scapegoat when the things Trump's done to Obama's great economy start causing it to tank. Then again, maybe the Republicans -- for good evidence-based reasons -- think that their voters will vote against their own interests just to "trigger the libs." They're counting on their voters hatred for everything they've been told is "liberal" or "socialist" to override their own sense of self-preservation. And, from watching the South over the last X-many decades, that's likely a safe bet for 'em. Their base is that spiteful and stupid.

What's simple is apparently you. 1964...when LBJ defeated the hawk Goldwater, less than a year after the assassination of JFK, and I have a pretty good idea who was behind that murder, don't you? For anyone voting in Florida this midterm, here's the link to the League of Women Voter's site that shows their recommendations and reasons for voting one way or another on the constitutional amendments. Each amendment also shows which groups support or are against each amendment, which is often a window into who it would help or be good for should it pass.

I recommend the League as a trusted source of well thought out positions. Never could have gotten through the ballot in California without them!

The League of Women Voters brought suit against the legislature for gerrymandering a few years ago. I applaud the LWV.

I have researched this heavily because of the family connection and because it surprised me when my grandparents went to the LBJ Ranch for a family reunion not long after LBJ announced he wouldn't run again. My grandfather took me to Houston to visit his brother, whom I had never met, and who looked more like LBJ than anyone I have ever seen. You're getting more obnoxious by the day. Take your own meds.
