A couple of ya'll are really fucking stupid. Like, profoundly. Sorry, but I'm out of patience.
The issue is not that Trump called countries "shitholes." The issue is that he doesn't want to take immigrants from countries he deems to be "shitholes."
There's a big difference, and please tell me you're not too goddamned dumb to see that. I know Pkr is, but I've given up on Pkr. We've all got stuff stuck between the treads of our sneakers worth more than that shitsmear.
Whatever your opinion of Haiti or Norway, you've got to see that the worthiness of the individual isn't dependent on where they're from. It doesn't matter if Haiti's a poor country when we're talking about immigrating people.
Trump calling other countries names is impolitic and it's dumb for a president to do, but that's not the problem -- the problem is that he wants preferred immigration based on country-of-origin, rather than the merit of the individual in question. Being from Norway is not an achievement. Being from Haiti is not a detriment.
Forget the word "shithole" for a minute. It's distracting you. If Trump had just said, "Why are we taking all these immigrants from Africa and Haiti? We need more people from Norway," it's still just as racist and just as stupid. The "shithole" word is not the problem.
And also quit pretending this is "merit-based" anything. When you talk about countries instead of individuals, you're completely torpedoing any pretense that it's about merit, because every country has its geniuses, and every country has its useless criminal types. "Norway" or "Haiti" are not factors in that question.
