After a North Carolina Republican office was firebombed the local GOP spokesperson admitted on network news that the office contained completed absentee ballots.
When North Carolina’s Orange County GOP offices were set aflame, Democrats rallied in support, raising money to repair and rebuild the facility. Now, only a few days later, North Carolina’s Republican spokeswoman admitted on NBC that the burned offices were housing completed absentee ballots. If that actually is the case then the Republican Party in North Carolina just confessed to committing a felony.
The election laws for North Carolina clearly state:
§ 163-226.3. Certain acts declared felonies.
(a) Any person who shall, in connection with absentee voting in any election held in this State, do any of the acts or things declared in this section to be unlawful, shall be guilty of a Class I felony. It shall be unlawful:
(6) For any person to take into that person’s possession for delivery to a voter or for return to a county board of elections the absentee ballot of any voter, provided, however, that this prohibition shall now apply to a voter’s near relative or the voter’s verifiable legal guardian[.]’
A criminal defense lawyer and person who happens to be running for State Senate caught the statement immediately when watching the broadcast and made a post on Facebook followed shortly by a tweet, which went viral quickly. Good looking out, T. Greg Doucette!
Let me zoom in on that picture if you can’t see it.

In this age of technology, and a multitude of ways to protect a business, it’s still anyone’s guess what actually happened when the GOP office was fire-bombed. Since anti-Republican graffiti was discovered at the scene it’s been assumed that the firebombing was done by Democrats. However, there has yet to be any proof produced. Investigators are still looking into the fire. When new information is discovered, or perpetrators found, legally all information must be shared with the public. Until then, we can only speculate.
While the North Carolina GOP have attempted to walk back their statement, the fact remains that it was made and broadcast on national TV.
