America and our ally Israel have always wanted to destroy the nation state of Syria

A child is shown bloodied and covered with dust sitting in the back of an ambulance after being pulled from a bombed building which the Syrian regime bombed. Front page of the Wall Street Journal as if the world is frozen to act in Syria. Hell, America, Israel, and the Saudis actively aided the rebels in Syria to expand the Civil War and to topple the regime. People act like this was an accident or a failure of policy. For fifty years this has been our policy. We destroyed the nation state of Syria a huge policy win, but one which cannot be claimed because of the horror of nearly a million deaths........who are we trying to chit.

Oil was reportedly only found in 2015. Water is the more important resource. You sure are one way about Israel - the Arabs want to erase an entire people off the face of the earth and you begrudge Israel a small piece of real estate to help prevent that. Would you rather deal with Israel keeping the lid on their little patch of the planet or belligerent Arabs who hate America?

My solution.........I disagree with Z. Syria came a day short of over running Israel after the Egyptians and Syrians did a coordinated preemptive attack on Israel in 1973. America came to their rescue but we came incredibly close to a hot war with the Soviets who threatened to intervene if the Israelis did not stop once we replaced their tanks and planes and pulled off the brilliant bridge over the Suez to take out the SAMs and regain air superiority.

If the hypothesis of our foreign policy since that war is to not expose the world to a nuclear outbreak and carnage as Israel who if cornered by Arab nations where their survival was on the line retaliated with Nuclear, and then the Russians entered the fray escalating war and carnage. The foreign policy goal was valid, but at what price. We sit and blame the Russians for these bombings and the regimes carnage, but we are entirely responsible for the same. The only solution is to seek diplomatic no fly zones and an end to the American, Israeli, and Saudi interference in that country. Iraq has been neutralized. Egypt has been neutralized with American control of the military of Egypt. Iran has been strengthened to optimize American withdrawal, yet still poses a threat to Israel, but historically their have been strange connections between Iran and Israel which is quite different than the optics of Iran supporting terrorists groups. The only answer is diplomacy.
