Just went out on the Golf cart to see what needed to be cut, and we had a heavy rain a couple days ago, and I was literally swarmed. I usually do not go out without spray, but I thought five minutes on the golf cart would not be that bad......two blood bites on my hand, and now every bite has a risk as west Nile is a real problem here. I remember as a kid riding our bikes following the truck spraying the neighborhood......I just do not remember getting bitten so much as currently, but I am in the wilds, and it is certainly better than north Wisconsin, or no seuums on Garcon point, but with all our modern advancements, the mosquitoes are still killing people and causing serious health problems.

I feel for the people still playing at the Little League park from which my son graduated.

It is surrounded by wetlands, and All-Star play coincides with the beginning of the rainy season.

The mosquitoes down there were the size of small hummingbirds.

I kept a can of Deep Woods OFF - 25% DEET with me at all times.

Bought the stuff by the case.

DEET works great and you might need it for skeeters the size of hummingbirds.  lol

But DEET makes my skin crawl.  The active ingredient in that product I linked,  Picaridin,  is what they put in Avon Skin-So-Soft but it is a higher concentration than what goes in the Avon product.  It keeps all the skeeters off me and I have skeeters galore.  And it doesn't make my skin crawl as bad.

There are ways to protect yourself from those insects. A mosquito spray is rather good but it's only effective for 3 hours. An anti-mosquito stick effect lasts 4 hours or so. If you don’t want to use chemical substances, try to choose natural means to get rid of mosquitoes such as lemongrass essential oil and other. In this article you will find everything about protecting from mosquitoes. Hope it will come in handy.

That's because they didn't ban DDT till 1972. Between WWII and 1972 they killed the h*ll out of mosquitos in this country.

It's taken decades since that ban but mosquitos have been slowly but surely coming back in populations closer to the days when we had malaria and yellow fever in this country. (Yes, the US did have those diseases ... till DDT came along) Fortunately we have developed other mosquito pesticides and strategies since, none though so effective against mosquitos as was DDT.
