Oil costs more to produce than they can sell it for now, so they're shipping thousands of foreign workers home without paying their back wages.

Fuck King Salman and his gang! If we're lucky, that creep will end up with a sword up his ass same as Gaddafi ...

Good article. The kingdom is also running out of oil, as documented in this 2005 book by the late Matthew Simmons:

Saudi Arabia field report: Another potential oil crisis in the Middle East

http://www.brookings.edu/blogs/markaz/posts/2015/07/02-saudi-energy-subsidies-hino

Saudi domestic consumption of oil is growing to the point where by around 2030 they will have no oil to export. Flagging production combined with increasing consumption will mean that no more oil can be exported.

There is a bigger reason, besides climate change, to diversify into solar and alternative energy sources. The world is going to effectively run out of oil before the end of the current century. While I do not believe any of the climate change fearmongering promoted today, I do believe in the theory about Peak Oil. The sooner we develop solar and the alternatives, the lesser dependent we are on declining fossil fuels--which should help calm the fears of the climate change fanatics.
