Halo Volt E227260

The box is the size of a medium-sized book, and weighs about a half-pound.

My wife bought one from QVC a few weeks ago for around $105. We have a 2005 Town and Country van that only gets used a couple of times per month for short trips, and the battery discharges if we do not start the vehicle once a week. My wife used it to jump start the van today as a first try, and it worked like a charm!

Technology reigns.... The old fashioned jumper cables are now obsolete...

The Halo Volt has a lithium-ion battery (actually 3 of them) inside it.

It is the same technology that powers the Tesla Model S electric car.

L-I batteries also power a lawnmower we have:

That Greenworks mower is as light as a feather and works very well. It came with two L-I battery modules, which are enough to mow a medium-sized lawn before needing to recharge. The batteries only need an hour to recharge. It sure beats trying to use a gasoline-powered mower, with todays E-85 gasoline not working well with small-engines, etc.

No sarcasm or anything here.

I don't drive my restored '66 GTO plus all it's upgrades all the time either. I found that you can purchase a simple switch at your local auto parts store that disconnects the battery. On my GTO, which needs a lot of cranking power to turn over the high compression engine, it has lasted for months without a noticeable decrease in power. As a rule I don't let it go that long, it's too much fun to drive, but didn't have an option a couple years back.

For a picture of one similar to the one I use.

Thank you, that was very interesting, and much cheaper than the Halo Volt, too. I had never seen such a device before.....

Most auto parts stores carry them.

Markle's solution is silly. You can go to the same Auto Parts store and get a trickle charger for less than thirty bucks, or go to Wal mart and get one for less than 18 bucks. First, it is better for your battery, and second there is no install, and third it keeps an optimal charge and does not overcharge. Bob's solution requires you leave your car out in the Sun, and would not work in a garage. I have used trickle charges on all my equipment and get great battery life and never have a battery problem on any equipment. All the other solutions are more expensive, not good for battery life, or only works in the sun. Thank you Seaoat.

Good discussion why this is the best method.
