Yep, burger flipping is so much more dangerous that anything the military does. And before you liberals say, "well a person volunteers to join the military," don't forget you can say the same thing in regards to the person who fills out fast food restaurant job application. It's voluntary as well.

Hey we can just pay everyone $50 an hour and call it inflation.

$15 an hour x 40 hours per week x 52 weeks per year=$31200

Military E-1 makes 1546.80 per month x 12 months= $18561.60

Does anyone else see the problem with raising a burger flipper's job, meant for a high school kid to make car insurance payments with and gas, to $15 an hour? Minimum wage jobs aren't meant to be CAREERS.

The E-1 either lives in free housing or gets BAH (unlikely for an E-1), and either eats at no cost in the mess hall or draws ComRats. He/she may also draw special pay or allowances. So your analogy that just compares basic pay is disingenuous.

Military members are already highly paid. The big myth is the so-called "military pay gap."

Back around 2002, a retiring Gunnery Sergeant brought a resume to my company's local office. He was applying to become an environmental technician, had no degree,  and wanted $35K per year. I had to tell him that degreed professionals with his level of experience in our field (none) made about $35K to start, and that technicians started at about $12 per hour. I wasn't the hiring manager, but I felt he needed to be leveled with before he wasted his efforts

The Private Sector produces and adds to the GDP, the Military sucks GDP dry, pouring more money in unproductive sectors of our economy and especially the military is counterproductive.

Ya think? Why do so many communities want bases to remain open even after the respective services want them closed down? Locally, Okaloosa County thrives because of military spending due to the diversity of the workforce that is trained and able to work jobs related to supporting that industry. In SRC and Escambia, we only have entry level folks rotating in and out for the most part because Whiting and Pensacola NAS are training bases unfortunately and in areas where training bases are, the economy sucks. We can throw out San Diego as it was quite established before a huge military presence.

But as usual, you will denigrate anything military which goes back to my assertion that a military man of one branch or another caused you great butthurt in a time in your earlier life. That's all it can come down to.

After the initial building of barracks, they are used for 30+ years. They just got new barracks at Courthouse Bay where I was an 1833 in the Corps. Those barracks were old when I got there in 84. The housing cost is a moot point aside from the initial costs. The chow hall is a wash. Nobody except boots use it and then maybe on the weekends you might get the rest of the battalion to use that service. Most kids I know are eating elsewhere. I never ate at the chowhall at Goodfellow for the entire six months I was there from Nov 2012 to May 2013. The pipeline kids had no choice and of their 367 per month subsistence allowance, the AF was taking back 340 of that each month. Oh wait, once I ate there and the food was bland and unappetizing. However, the lines at Burger King, Subway and the pizza place at the minimall were raking in the cash.

Okaloosa County thrives because of military spending

Military spending makes no capital equipment to grow the economy, the labor makes no products which grow the economy, rather the productive sectors of our private sector economy are taxed to pay teat suckers who are not productive. It would be better to lay off three hundred thousand military and give tax credits to the private sector who actually contribute and are not takers, and they would invest in capital equipment and private sector jobs which grow GDP and make America secure.....these welfare handouts have to stop.....as MIC gets rich, and innocent civilians suffer around the world because fools think Military spending is good for anything......it is good when real threats exist, and it should be proportional to the risk........this is simple economics....military spending hurts economic growth.

I was thinking we could just add a zero... a one becomes a ten... etc.

Hell... we could just do that every few years when the leftists need their sensibilities placated. It feeeeeels good.

The economist understand the science.....the adjustment of the minimum wage can have negative effects and positive effects if not adjusted correctly for the conditions at the time. The consensus is that the minimum wage can be raised significantly without adversely impacting inflation. T(chicken Little) and PK (its all funny money) have been crying the sky is falling and now suggest inflation when we are tittering on deflationary times, when the minimum wage increases would stimulate demand and drive GDP. No actually, the sky is not falling and the dollar has only gotten stronger in the last few years....which was EXACTLY the opposite what our Bopsy twins keep crying......buy gold......gold drops like a rock......the dollar is worthless.......the dollar crushes the Euro......Russia is going to kill the dollar........the Rubble is being used as toilet paper in Moscow....and laurel and Hardy keep on giving us sage advice about the falling sky.

So thanks for the keynesian display of your compound ignorance.

Tanks airplanes rifles et al wear out and need replacing even in peacetime. Your definition of capital is askew.

If anything, military spending creates jobs that spin off into the community- even a small base like Whiting. Huge bases like Norfolk, Camp Lejuene, Fort Bragg etc have epic amounts of spin off business....
Maybe not for the crap you owned, but lots for many others. Maybe you chose poorly for what business to create?,

I've got a great idea, inspired by War Hero ... let's cut the military budget by 70% and increase the wages for all pay grades by 5%. Makes sense to me!

Hitler had a long history of lying; saying whatever was necessary for political gain, by the time of this speech. As things turned out, and as everybody knows except Semi-sane "I know NOSSING! Markle, Hitler's two favorite enemies were European Jews and Communists. Facts are, Mr. Hitler even partnered with Stalin prior to invading Russia in WWII. Hey Semi-sane, reach into your bag of Nazi photos and other cliches and give us some new ones!

Hitler was a false socialist, but you Semi Sane Markle, are a true fascist. Your hatred for the American worker is real.

Reality.

I have a better idea and one that obamasucks would really support.

Let's pay everybody in the military $50/hour and all the rest of us can work for minimum wage building armaments and munitions.  Let's just make the country a giant war machine like Nazi Germany where everybody in the country starved just so the leaders could satisfy their craving for more blood and more war. From their bunkers where they were living large of course (like the ones here).

Clueless?!! Why the hell should we pay more for generals who can't win wars, military equipment that lies rusting in storage yards, jet fighters that can't fly at night, and troops who haven't won a war since WWII? Clueless ... that does indeed seem the right word to describe today's military forces!

We win wars according to the parameters given by politicians. Your politicians are afraid of actually fighting a war without handicapped out military with stupid ROEs that put us in more harm's way and make it more difficult to get to the actual crux of the issue- killing lots of the enemy.

It was the Korean era where that principle started.... Ya know the one you claim to be a war veteran of, but got into the service after the shooting ended.

I'm the one who's clueless and yet obamasucks is the one who wrote several posts yesterday to say how good it is that the local economies are now so dependent on domestic military spending that the economy would collapse without that.  lol

Obamasucks must think the money to pay for all that spending on thousands of military installations and trillion dollar wars which accomplish nothing must grow on trees.
But again,  I'm the one who's "clueless".  lol
