WASHINGTON – U.S. officials say the Pentagon is moving two warships to the Libyan coast, in the aftermath of the attack in Benghazi that killed the U.S. ambassador and three others.

Officials say one destroyer, the USS Laboon, moved to a position off the coast Wednesday, and the USS McFaul is en route and should be stationed off the coast within days. The officials say the ships, which carry Tomahawk missiles, do not have a specific mission. But they give commanders flexibility to respond to any mission ordered by the president.

The destroyers have crews totaling about 300. There have been four destroyers in the Mediterranean for some time. These moves will increase that to five.

Officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss troop movements

Seriously, its just posturing as usual. Obama is scared of his own shadow. We have never been as venerable as we are now with this non-leading leader at the helm.

The math is somewhat off on this. 4 destroyers already in the Med for some time and adding 2 more brings the total to 5? That sounds like someone's fuzzy math to me.

I just hope Obama's sending our ships and not Russian ships.

LMAO!

Why don't you ask Bin Laden or one of the dozens of other Al Qaeda leaders currently taking dirt baths how Obama handles these types of situations.

Someone is about to have a close encounter with a cruise missile.

Hell no! Just pissed. The sanity will return in a few days.

Too little, too late. Unless we get lucky and find the dirtbags holed up somewhere, there will be no one to shoot at.

We can learn from this experience. All of our embassies in Muslim countries should be staffed with SIGNIFICANT firepower. If costs are a problem... and it should be... reduce the number of embassies. We don't need an embassy in every city.

We do NOT want this episode, probably caused by outside radicals, to cause the killing of Libyan citizens. I have seen signs like this on newscasts, and perhaps the Libyan people are not our enemies... yet.

I agree, Eric. If we're going to put our people in some God forsaken hell-hole, they should be protected.

Let me ask this question.......If you had certain interests which could be promoted by favorable American reaction to an event, would you not actively try to achieve that goal?

If you knew that to create a film that would inflame a known population, and that the reaction would put them in total in a bad light with the American Public, would you not try to actively achieve that goal?

If a President and a State Department put American national interest above other nation's national interests, would you not try to sway public opinion to meet your perceived national interests?

If you were a nation who never had a true day of peace since 1948, and who is facing real threats from Iran, would you not work in every way to protect your national interest?

If a popular ambassador who was making great strides to connect to the Libyan people and bring a once hostile nation to the United States into a uncertain alliance, would those goals necessarily be the same for a nation who must paint all muslim nations as radicals who are a threat to America, in order to have mirror image interests?

I know what I would do if I was a policy maker in Israel. I would not allow the risk of Iran to be uncertain. I would do whatever was necessary to bring the United States to a war footing......including but not limited to coordinating and instigating an attack on that Ambassador, and making sure my fingerprints were not on those actions. No, I am not talking about T's theories, but I am talking about common sense geopolitical realities which have not changed in a thousand years, and the tactics which achieve those goals.

Am I saying that Israel is responsible for the attack in Libya. No, I am not. However, it would be just as reckless to deny that overreaction to this incident and other coordinated attacks on American embassies has certain political advantages for the creation of this monolithic threat where suddenly our national interest is a mirror image of Israel's national interest, when in fact they are not mirror images. Lets investigate the creation of this film. Where did the money come from? Lets investigate the attacks in Libya, and dig deeper than the surface......we need to get the people responsible for this cowardice, and we will, but like an onion, my prediction is that this will be multi layered and not an accident.

You have to feel bad for those people...if they are sincere.
We should stop and think about how blessed we are in this country for enjoying the protections of free speech. In some countries, half of our forum members would have been rounded up and stoned to death or be rotting in prison.

Well, your man is the president right now, but hopefully that will soon change. Wink

For me this is all starting to be like trying to figure out the plot of a David Lynch movie. I can't figure who the players are, who they're allied with, what their motives are, how many wizards are behind the curtain, or where the money trail leads.
I long for an earlier simpler time because all this craziness today is just too much for an old geezer like me to try to take in.

That's what they always tell me before I vote. And then the next one always turns out to be as bad as the one they told me to vote against.

So you always vote for the winner?

Try spousal nullification of your vote. For the first eight years of our marriage we never discussed politics or elections. We voted and really did not have discussions before the election and would have chit chat as to who we voted for. After two election cycles and having my vote nullified, I could either hide the car keys, or discuss with her issues and candidates.

She voted for Obama last time when I voted for McCain, and only now tells me because she thinks my distaste for Romney is somehow support for Obama......nope. McCain in my opinion was the better candidate, but when somebody tells me I am wasting my vote on Johnson.......at least my vote is not being nullified by Mrs. Seaoat.

Have y'all seen the new AC commercials with that crazy liberal Cajun and his conservative wife?
They're hilarious!

Little too late now....perhaps had the Embassy's been protected by US Forces in the first place...Strange that everyone thought this was over a movie that came out in JUNE!...This was what it was... smaller scaled coordinated terrorist attacks...We have let a guard down once again and have paid the price...While all the 'shitheads' are out in the streets....am I the only one that would like to see a few well placed missles......

Have you ever hunted? You need to know the range of your weapon and you need to see the target. Hunting accidents happen when people fail to get those two simple concepts correct. When we know the target and we have the range......well, I think the president in his drone attack in Yemen taking the Al Queda number 2 out speaks volumes more than beating our chests and then going to France for a three year vacation.
