I wonder how many tens of millions of dollars has been spent on those two little white bags of garbage

How much did the two week search cost. And now somebody has to pay hundreds of thousands more for the hospitalization and medical treatment for the one who's still breathing.  
And then,  after that,  if the piece of shit lives it costs about 60 grand a year
to keep him in prison.
And that's after it has already cost hundreds of thousands to keep the two rabid animals in prison before they escaped.
And how many hundreds of thousands did it cost to prosecute their appeals.

The total figure must be staggering.

Law enforcement is an industry...they are very much like the MIC in that they take much and produce little.
