The revolution is already underway.  It started when the two cops were gunned down in Brooklyn.

The killer of the two cops was an armed crazy.  But then again, the guy who choked Eric Garner to death was an equally armed crazy.

I think it's very likely the cops will now become more aggressive, because they now have genuine reason to be afraid.

Anyone want to predict where all this shit is headed?

What corporations own our police departments? Seems like you have your own little agenda.

Our society functions with laws and regulations....when criminals run amuck it is the responsibility of the police to enforce those laws.....and when the police do their job, the criminals get all upset because they do not want to conform and live within the law. Criminals see the police as the enemy, therefore, a target.

Is your answer a lawless society?

What corporations own our police departments?  The same ones who own congress.  The ones who buy off politicians with campaign funding.  Governors and a number of Mayors of major cities are included as recipients who have sold their souls.  Police departments are run by appointees who get their jobs from Mayors, etc.

It's the federal government who stated the heavy police militarization.

C'mon Joani ... don't play dummy.  All the major security agencies who now spy on all of us feed info to police departments as they wish.  And during this horrid process by which we the people have ceased to be the citizens the police protect and serve, we've become suspects -- possible enemies.

That's what I mean when I say it's now Them vs. Us.

More cops are going to die, and more innocent citizens as well.

I'm not advocating that we shouldn't have cops. I'm advocating that we shouldn't have lawless cops. When the cops are criminal (beating suspects, tasering them without cause, and murdering them) we have lawlessness.

Reality.

If anyone is to blame it's people, such as yourself, who demand those PlayStation 4's, cheaply made clothes, Big Mac's, etc... Therefore the federal, state, and local, governments offer tax incentives and abatement to the big corporates all so you can have your low, low prices. Thereby driving the small businessman who's given none of those incentives nothing except higher taxes and no business while you stuff your face with your supersized big mac.

Reality!

I know that I haven't the foggiest idea what you're trying to communicate here ... and I suspect you don't either. Right?

The corporations I'm referring to are more like Exxon and Monsanto than McDonald's. Try again, maybe somebody here will actually understand you ... Reality.

Oh I see. Now it's only certain corporates that are guilty of the crimes and companies like WalMart, Target, MacDonals, etc... would never have any influence on how government works at any level because your particular moral compass says they don't even if they rely on being given heavy tax incentives and slave labor to preform the work. If you believe that you don't even understand how your own local government works if you don't believe these corporates have a heavy influence in the process. You are a very discriminating fellow.

You inferred there were none.

In my opinion, Glass-Steagall should be re-instated and the largest banks broken up into smaller, CAN fail sizes.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac should be privatized and each broken into at least seven pieces. Regionally seems like a logical method.

Anyone want to predict where all this shit is headed?

As many are pointing out, the problems between police and the public or more specifically the people of color part of the public (mostly) is a many layered, complicated and chronic condition. To treat the symptoms of this unraveling of civilization hundreds if not thousands of hours of training must take place. The police have seemingly lost sight of their serve and protect calling.

I was appalled  by the comments of the NYC police official who conflated peaceful demonstrations calling for civil police behavior with calls for violence against the police. This is exactly the sort of statement that so wrongly misdirects peoples' attention from the real problem the demonstrators were protesting, namely police misbehavior. Now there is a rift between the police of NYC and the mayor who should all be on the side of law and order and respect for the public. This is not an easy job the police have, trying every minute to decide who the bad guys are and who they are supposed to be protecting but the police official's comments were totally off IMO and added fuel to a tense situation.

People need to remember that when you call 911 with an emergency it is the police who are going to respond. We need them. We also need them to behave. We should be able to protest their bad behavior without people wrongly looking at those protests as calls for violence against them. Really, some thought must be applied to this situation don't you think? Have we just turned into some kind of mob? I hope not.

As for the serving of corporate interests go this police/citizen dust up could be seen as just another hot button issue (albeit a real condition)played up by the media to distract us from other more real issues that the corporations don't want the government to deal with, things like run-away military spending, crumbling infrastructure, shrinking middle class, you know, the usual important things they don't want us to pay attention to?

The right wing media outfits are blaming New York's mayor, Eric Holder, and even Obama for the two NYPD officers shot dead. They are also showing a clip of a small group of protestors in New York chanting for more dead cops, the clip is running almost continuously, and the right wing is pretending all the thousands of protestors in NY and elsewhere, are advocating the killing of more cops.

Fact: What fired up the protestors is police brutality, uncalled for violence and a dysfunctional legal system which is designed to protect cop suspects via the Grand Jury.

The mentally disturbed cop killer was also fired up by the Michael Brown and Eric Garner cases, etc.

Nothing the NY mayor or anyone else said before the two cops were shot dead, had anything to do with the cop killer's alleged motivation.

Exactly. Once again the right wing press is misrepresenting the issues. People were asking for GOOD policing without brutality. They were not calling for violence against the police.

I fault the police commissioner for adding to this confusion. It was a very emotional situation no doubt but he should not have made misleading statements suggesting that people were calling for violence. With the exception of that one group the protestors were asking for recognition of the problem and a correction of the practices.

Reality, you are out of touch as those aforementioned alleged leaders should be all calling for calmer heads to prevail. In the true Obama fashion, they are leading from behind. That's why the uptick in stupidity and violence.

That's absurd.

There are many facets to this problem and acknowledging that harsh police tactics disproportionately affect communities of color contradicts none of them.

Police go where the crime is... this ain't rocket psychiatry. How often do you see a cop in your neighborhood?

Sal

I have heard nothing but calls for non-violent protests from black leaders.

After the past six years, it's really quite funny to hear the wingnutz complaining about inflammatory rhetoric (non-existent as it may be).

Hilarious, actually.

PkrBum wrote:

I fail to see the relevancy.

It's not their presence in the community that fuels distrust and hostility.

It's the tactics they employ.

A couple of years ago, the kids in our neighborhood would play football in the street.

There was one lady who was so over-protective of her lawn that she called the cops every time the ball bounced into her yard, and a kid went to retrieve it.

I swear to gawd, the kids knew she was a fucking nut and tried their best to stay off her property, but every once in a while the ball would bounce the wrong way, and she called the cops.

I bet they came around a half dozen times.

Funny thing tho ...

... the cops never felt the need to blow a kid's head off in the street or choke one out on the sidewalk.

They actually joked with the kids and wisecracked about the lady, while gently admonishing them to try harder to stay out her yard.

Weird.
