This racist needs to get on his knees and beg Rev Sharpton's forgiveness.

The fear you carry can ultimately only be released by you, but the easy road is to make light of your fears and prejudice. Sharpton has keen ears and can hear your dog whistle, but he hardly would be able to free you of those fears. That is a solitary journey we each must make. Carrying guns and putting dressers in front of motel doors should tell you that something in life has made you afraid. If black people are regularly beating you up, and that experience has caused you to form an opinion and fear, that would appear to be rational. If Mexicans are breaking into your home and defecating on the floor, and that experience has caused you to form an opinion and fear, that would appear to be rational. However, if you have never experienced or met a mexican, your fears and prejudice are irrational, and that dresser by the way is way irrational, because if I jimmie your lock quietly, my 235 lbs will move that dresser in seconds and before you can reach for your judge.......I will take all your popcorn and milk duds.

This opinion piece contains a classic double dog whistle. First, it puts the burden of failure squarely on the culture of black Americans, implying that there is something fundamentally lacking in black culture that keeps them from succeeding.

Second, it simultaneously attacks liberal policies that have helped the middle class grow. It is part of the right wing agenda to dismantle the New Deal programs, which benefited mainly poor white people. Now that people of color are being included in the groups being helped suddenly those of the tea party mentality are against government programs in general without realizing how they and their families have also benefited.

This type of dog whistle has turned the enemy of the middle class from being a small group of wealthy individuals and corporations to the small group of non-whites now portrayed as being the consumers of our "hard earned" tax dollars.

This is a great way to attack liberals and minorities at the same time, effective  political strategy on the part of the right.

The solution is not to give up on helping the poor but to continue to open the doors of opportunity in concrete ways to everyone.

It's disgusting to see what should be a noble cause used as a political hammer to pound out objectivity and ideas.

Nobility does not change in a political battle, nor does evil change. We can only pray that nobility shall prevail, and all men shall be treated equally.

Yep...beating objectivity to a pulp with subjective obtuse observations.

Bob, what made you post this? It's one of the most slanted things I've ever read. I don't care who wrote it.

I agree. Any black man like this one has to be a racist and a xenophobe. He needs to listen to white liberals because they know far better than he does about being black.

The fact that he's black doesn't make him any less wrong.

Case in point:

That's funny... that logic leveled at the president is labeled racist.

Tell that to semi-retired President Barack Hussein Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, Eric Holder, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Rev. Al Sharpton, Minister Louis Farrakhan, Father Pflager, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr., Rev. Jesse Jackson, Jr., King Samir Shabazz, Van Jones, Charlie Rangel, Barbara Boxer, Maxine Waters, Sheila Jackson Lee, Andre Carson, Shirley Sherrod….

Instantly and without objective thought at all. The facts the author presented can't be ignored. By thinking people anyway.

After that first paragraph, nothing remaining in your post is worth reading. That is a patent lie about the article.

What the article says is 100% true and in no way racist. The article states what has been done, and continues to be done wrong at the behest of the race baiters.

PLEASE, explain what is NOT true in the article.

Without the fueling of the racist flame by a limited group race baiters today, racism would be behind us. The fame and fortune attained by these race baiters would be gone.

Even you know that is 100% true.

First, it puts the burden of failure squarely on the culture of black Americans, implying that there is something fundamentally lacking in black culture that keeps them from succeeding.

Statistics in the opinion piece show relative rates of poverty in the black community and say federal programs are making things worse without considering all the other factors that effect poverty rates such as the overall health of the economy for a start.

Many more people are in poverty today because of the damage done by the Great Recession, loss of jobs, savings, houses etc.

The article's stance is basically that we tried and oh well, things are still bad for black Americans I guess we need to stop trying and just get out of the way.

I think the author implies that it is something about blacks that keeps them from succeeding. He does this by showing that other groups have improved but alas, blacks have not and in some cases things have gotten worse. In that framework the only variable is the black family or black culture and the implication is that there must be something wrong there.

While gains have been made, significant racial disparities persist in some areas and black retrogression has occurred in others.
The black-white poverty gap has widened over the last decade and the poverty rate among blacks is no longer declining. The black-white disparity in incarceration rates today is larger than it was in 1960.
And the black unemployment rate has, on average, been twice as high as the white rate for five decades. In fact, black America has long been stuck in a severe recession. Between 1963 and 2012, annual black unemployment averaged 11.6%, while the average annual national unemployment rate during recessions over the same period was only 6.7%.

This passage states that the situation of blacks has not improved or gotten worse, white families are better off but still, golly the black families are just somehow lagging behind. The conclusion the author wants readers to come to is that there is something wrong with black Americans or they too would be improving along with everyone else. I hardly see how you can say that my statement about the article is untrue when it is so plainly stated over and over.
