The article really rips FSU leadership for not sanctioning Winston, who has gotten away with things no other student or athlete would ever get away with.

Were Jameis Winston a fourth-string punter rather than a first-string quarterback, he almost certainly would have long since been kicked off the Florida State football team, probably for good.

Instead, the Heisman Trophy-winning problem child is being protected by his university and athletics department for the worst reason possible. He is being coddled because of what he can do for them....

...The kid has barely left his teenage years and already has not one but two attorneys. I don’t care how many awards he has won. This is not the way you want to start out life as an adult....

...This sad story of the enablement, entitlement and abandonment of Winston has its authors: former FSU president Eric Barron, now at Penn State; interim president Garnett Stokes; athletics director Stan Wilcox; and football coach Jimbo Fisher....

...Those are the people who have done what they wanted for themselves and their football program, while doing almost nothing for an immature young athlete who so desperately needed the ethical guidance and moral leadership they never supplied...

Maybe Winston's next caper will be to hold-up a bank in Tallahassee, since he knows he will never be arrested in that city....

The state dropped the ball.....he should have been prosecuted on the first charge.

The allegations were unfounded.

How come he wasn't charged with larceny when he stole crab legs from Publix? What bigger crimes must he commit before he is held accountable?

The author of that article makes very valid points. It was a USA Today article, so it was in newspapers all over the country. I wonder what Winston thinks of his notoriety outside of Tallahassee? What other excuses will Coach Jimbo Fisher make for his "star" whose behavior may already be affecting his chances to play in the NFL one day?

What is your source?

I should have said a lack of evidence in order to obtain a conviction, according to the prosecutor William Meggs.

Petty theft.....

http://www.cnn.com/2014/04/30/us/florida-winston-shoplifting-allegation/

Winston, allegedly walked into a Publix near the FSU campus Tuesday night, ordered about $32 worth of crab legs and crawfish, and walked out of the store without paying, sheriff's Maj. Michael Wood told reporters.
After deputies contacted him about three hours later, Winston told them that he forgot to pay, Wood said.
"He was very cooperative," Wood said. "Seemed fairly honest in the fact that he did not pay for the items, so it was not a huge mystery to solve."
As part of the civil citation for alleged shoplifting -- an alternative to criminal prosecution for first-time, nonviolent offenses in the county -- Winston was not arrested but has been ordered to serve at least 20 hours of community service, Wood said.

Why did not let a grand jury look at the evidence? What prosecutor would not take that evidence to a grand jury.......white wash.

Dez Bryant was coddled the same way at OK State. It's nothing new.
